I stole the idea from Imus. There are but 4 faces on the Mount, but we'll allow a fifth in honor of the great Oglala Lakota warrior Crazy Horse, whose monument has been under construction since 1948 ! Groups or solo, and comments and observations are welcome.
The Beatles Bob Dylan The Kinks Howlin' Wolf Miles Davis

Sinatra Elvis Chuck Berry Beatles Bob Dylan

The Beatles Bob Dylan The Kinks Howlin' Wolf Miles Davis The lack of speed on the Crazy Horse monument is mostly due to the fact that they refuse to take government funding...and good for them on that because that also avoids most government interference with their ultimate vision. As for mine, I like John's... Sinatra Elvis Chuck Berry Beatles Bob Dylan ...mostly because it takes into account their influence on so many others as well as their crossover ability.

Mine is weird. Howlin' Wolf Bo Diddley Chuck Berry The Smiths Rolling Stones Unless I could make a Blues one and a rock one seperately: Wolf Bukka White Bo Diddley Son House Lightnin Hopkins The Smiths Stones Berry Elvis Nine Inch Nails Of course some names change regularly, just like a top 10 list of favorite artists.

Wouldn't the inclusion of entire bands cause the Mount to have more than five faces?

Led Zeppelin Pink Floyd Big Country The Beatles Billy Joel
(Joe Jackson, Bob Marley and the members of Yes, The Who, Rush and Del Amitri are all scowling at me for not including them, but I'm sure they'll get over it).

Five is impossible for me. Gaping holes in Mount Rushmore and it will crumble. I'll try: The Beatles Brian Wilson The Move (and family) The Small Faces Big Star With ten, I could probably manage a list that felt like it covered all the bases. There are later artists who are derivative of the above, but are more meaningful to me personally.

I just realized I should have included Rush on my list so I could call it Mount RUSHmore. Guess I'll call it Mount ZEPmore instead.

I have to admit when i first saw the title, it made me think of what has affectionately been titled "box Mountain" in my garage!
Back on topic, off the top of my head (5 ISN'T FAIR!!!!!!!!)
In no particular order
Bruce Cockburn Joni Mitchell CSNY (Sorry I know that's cheating) David Bowie Grateful Dead
5 ISN'T ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
6-10:
Frank Zappa Duke Ellington Wishbone Ash The Beatles Mott The Hoople & Ian Hunter (cheating again!)
Even 10 isn't enough!

I'd really have to demand one of these for every genre. It's not fair!

I started to think about and realized how painful the process would be, so I made like a band-aid and just yanked out a list. If I did it again for the next six days without looking at previous lists, I'm not sure I'd duplicate a full list.

I'll do 5 since that's what was asked (but I could easily get to 100):
Thin Lizzy Rush Genesis Black Sabbath (all of them-this would fill a volcano or two) Led Zeppelin
