Quote: Mickey Rooney, the pint-sized actor who was one of MGM’s giant box office attractions in the late ’30s and early ’40s, has died, sources confirm. He was 93.
As adept at comedy as drama and an excellent singer and dancer, Rooney was regarded as the consummate entertainer. During a prolific career on stage and screen that spanned eight decades (“I’ve been working all my life, but it seems longer,” he once said), he was nominated for four Academy Awards and received two special Oscars, the Juvenile Award in 1939 (shared with Deanna Durbin) and one in 1983 for his body of work. http://variety.com/2014/film/news/micke ... 201153308/

It's a minor milestone for a very long and illustrious career, but Mickey Rooney was the last surviving principal cast member of It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. The four remaining people who are still alive (which includes Jerry Lewis) all had minor roles in the movie.

I remember when Rooney was a guest on Late Night with David Letterman and Letterman asked him if he'd seen the new (Keaton) Batman movie that everyone was talking about. Rooney went into that bragging old actor mode that Dana Carvey used to parody... "Batman? No. When I made movies it was about REAL people. We made REAL movies. Not like today." It was awesome.

Turns out it was five. The person who cited that forgot Carl Reiner. Besides Jerry Lewis and Reiner, the other three are Marv Kaplan, Stan Freberg, and Barrie Chase.
P.S. Now I read that it is SEVEN. Two others are John Clarke (who played the helicopter pilot) and Nicholas Giorgiade (the second detective with Norman Fell).
