I got an advance promo of this one. Lots of famous friends paying tribute to Jackson Browne, not to mention tempting completists.

On first listen, the Keb' Mo' track is a real knockout.

i am very surprised that crosby, or some incarnation of CSN, is not on there, they have been fiends for a very long time.

venice is a nice little treat, and you can never go wrong with a lucinda cover.

agreed that disc 2 is far more intriguing than disc one.

This arrived yesterday, and it's outstanding, one of the very best tribute albums I've heard. Nearly every cut surpasses my expectations. And as a nice bonus, the sound is to die for. Extremely well done all around. My favorite cuts first time through were probably the Indigo Girls and Griffin House, but then those are two of my very favorite Jackson Browne songs.

Odd, though, that Lyle Lovett gets two cuts. Not complaining, I like Lyle a lot, but why does he get two?

Nice review. This is going to be a hunt & peck set for me, there's only 6-8 artists on here I care about AT ALL. I could live with just the Shawn Colvin, Lucinda Williams & Don Henley.

I just finished the 96/24 official hi-res version of this. A few comments:

Other than Steven Wilson's recent albums, this is probably the best sounding recently recorded hi res rock album I've heard (though not as good as some of the classic remasters I've heard). If you want to see why a few of us rave about hi res, this might be worth checking out

This will make Stormbringer happy: I didn't do the DR meter thing until after I'd played it. It is only an 8, & should sound like poop. It sounds really good. I still believe the DR meter correlates with what I hear 95% of the time; one of the reasons this wasn't obnoxious sounding is there is no hard rock on here, which is where I find compression most irritating; nonetheless, a "DR8" isn't supposed to sound anywhere this good.

Musically: My biggest takeaway is a reminder of what a great songwriter Browne is. While imo, not a single 1 of the covers was as good as the original, I still enjoyed a number of the tracks.

Probably the best track was Karla Bonoff's version of Something Fine (Also probably the 2nd best performance I've ever heard from Bonoff after Someone To Lay Down Beside Me..

The 2 that I felt the artist most successfully made the song there own while retaining quality were Lucinda Williams - The Pretender & Joan Osborne - Late For The Sky.

Biggest surprise for me was a duo I'd never heard of that was quite good: Sean and Sara Watkins - Your Bright Baby Blues.

I also liked the tracks from Shawn Colvin, both Lyle Lovett's, Venice, Eliza Gilkyson , Bonnie Raitt & Don Henley.

Worst track (imo) was Bruce Springsteen - Linda Paloma (I've always HATED that song, & felt it really damaged the continuity of The Pretender album; & I haven't liked any Springsteen album since the River).

At any rate, worth checking out; great songs & great sound; mixed performances.

I just recently listened to this, too, and really enjoyed it. I thought the first disc was stronger than the second, and my favorite tracks were Bob Schneider's quiet cover of "Running On Empty" and the Indigo Girls' take on "Fountain of Sorrow." A terrific collection overall.

from a terrific songwriter, albeit sinfully underrated.

Sean and Sara Watkins are 2/3 of the modern bluegrass outfit Nickel Creek. They are brother and sister -- he plays guitar and she plays fiddle and sings. The other member of Nickel Creek is mandolinist Chris Thile, who is the biggest name in the group. Sara has released her own solo album, which I like a lot.

I like their track a lot, too. I was also impressed with Griffin House's version of Barricades of Heaven.
