I use a significant amount of empty cases; both for myself, to replace broken cases before shipping to customers & to legally sell PD collector's films that do not have a copyright.
I USED to buy them cheaply from various wholesalers. They were shipped media mail & as a result were reasonably priced.
Unfortunately, this technically violates the post office's media mail regulations (there has to be "media" in the case!) & they let all the big companies know, "no more".
I have been running an add on Craig's List for almost a year trying to buy cheap used cases. No bites. about three weeks ago i finally broke down & bought 1 case of double cd cases & one of double dvd cases on a fake free shipping promotion from Supermedia. (I say "fake" because they really role the price of shipping into the price of the item). (FYI, I do NOT do that on my free ship over $50 offer).
First the irony (bet you saw this coming)........ Right after the 2 cases arrived, someone bit on the Craig's add & GAVE me about 2,000 dvd cases (what I'm going to do with them when i move is another story..........
Now for the real interesting part: He left the cover art on the cases so I know which dvd's he owns. I own probably around 3000 titles; again he gave me around 2,000 (I DID NOT COUNT!).
We couldn't have had more than 10 or 15 titles in common. That is the #1 example I have ever seen regarding people having different tastes in music & movies!
And yes, my morals said that I should tell him he was losing a large resale value on this huge collection by taking the discs out of the cases. But as he was moving to Japan & couldn't afford to pay the freight on the cases, I kept my mouth shut.

When I first met my wife we had exactly one CD in common between our collections: Cyndi Lauper's Sisters of Babylon. You'd think it would at least have been She's So Unusual or one of Lauper's hits collections, but no, it was Sisters of Babylon. As for DVD's, we both had Twister, and that was it. Mind you, if our DVD collections had continued to grow separately I think we would have ended up with a few more titles in common, but our music collections were never going to look the same.

My wife and I didn't have large record collections, but when we married we didn't double up on a single album. Our tastes overlapped in some areas, but not when it came to making the actual purchase.

My wife liked Frankie Valli, Barry Manilow, Englebert Humperdink - me? Zappa - Sensational Alex Harvey Band - Kinks...
Once she went into a record shop and stopped - pointed out a Howlin Wolf lp - she said this looks like something you'd like - I said indeed I did and I had most of his vinyl that was released.

If you were down the road from my place i'd give you a few. Geff many large retailers are no longer selling CD and DVD cases so they are offloading them cheap. Check out places like clearance sales etc at such places. CD books are the same.

Right now (especially with moving fairly soon), assuming the case of double cd cases I bought from Supermedia aren't all broken (I haven't had the courage to open the box yet!) all I really need are 3 & 4 disc cd cases.
