If Matt Groening never even touched those pages, why does he get his signature put above the name of the actual artist?

I was thinking about starting a thread on that. Groening seems to get a pass for having his name on anything Simpsons. He's never done a Kane and stated that he draws every drawing, but I'd guess that a great number of folks think that he draws all of these images.

Dan DeCarlo's my favorite Archie artist, but those characters were designed long before he started drawing them.
