There should have been a cartoon series.

I have this one, signed by Batton Lash (one of the writers). The parody of DC's 48 and 52 pagers from 1971 runs throughout the book, including a parody of Infantino's message about why they were increasing their price and their page count.

Looks like Treehouse of Horror did a few parody covers, too:

Those comics were surprisingly good.

I had one that had Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan doing a vampire story. I may have to get some of these. I freakin' love the TV show, so I don't know why I never have.

If Matt Groening never even touched those pages, why does he get his signature put above the name of the actual artist?

Ask Bob Kane.

I was thinking about starting a thread on that. Groening seems to get a pass for having his name on anything Simpsons. He's never done a Kane and stated that he draws every drawing, but I'd guess that a great number of folks think that he draws all of these images.

It's a really good book with spot-on lampoons of the various eras of comics. Highly recommended.

Yes, that's a great volume. Bought it for my dad for his birthday last year. Lots of clever stuff in those comics.

They actually wrote and drew comic book stories and not just fake comic book covers?

It actually comes out instead of not coming out?

It's because they actually wrote and drew comic book stories, and then everyone considered what is the typical, conventional next step.

But Groening did originate the style in which all Simpson characters are drawn as well as owning the rights to them. I see the dual signature in the vein as "______ after Groening."

Speaking of which, it would be nice to see Dan DeCarlo acknowledged similarly in the Archies. Then again, he never owned those characters.

Dan DeCarlo's my favorite Archie artist, but those characters were designed long before he started drawing them.
