Thoughts? I kind of agree with most of it.

The author doesn't go into enough detail and the examples are too few.

I'd like a quote of anyone working on the Marvel movies who says "the source doesn't matter". The whole MCU captures the feel of the comics almost perfectly, to me. If I had to nitpick something, I wish they'd used the Kree or something established instead of making up new aliens, but that's no biggie (the Kree and Skrulls are probably tied to the FF license, so they couldn't).

I find the critics live in a bubble complaint at odds with everything else. Marvel has raised the bar... by doing all this stuff we criticize in the rest of the list.

The Chitauri are from The Ultimates.

I agree with one or two things. Some of them are just whiny comic book complaints, but the villains being lame is a huge problem at this stage in the game.

My thought is that he should have put #10 at #1 since that's all he really complains about for the rest of the article.

 I've read the Ultimates several times and own the Omnibus, yet somehow didn't know that.

Its not their fault Marvel villains are lame. There's a reason Doctor Doom gets around.

Whoops. Didn't realize that was a slide show. Never mind what I said up-thread :?

Anyway, I agree somewhat with #2. Loki's motivation in Thor was stupid. He wanted to impress Odin by doing the very thing for which Odin banished Thor? As for his motivation in The Avengers, I agree there, not very well-defined, but then he is the god of mischief/evil.

My thought that the reviewer is an a-hole, who can't have fun at the movies.

I agree with a lot of it. Some of it is just the nature of the comic book genre (especially when it comes to Marvel... Inconsistent power levels, heroes being conveniently absent when there's a world crisis and such). I agree that it's a shame that we didn't see second features from Favreau and Joe Johnston. I also agree that the crop of villains has been light (with the exception of Loki).

His quote on the genre hitting its peak in 2008 is right on the money. Not that everything sucks, but it's hard to beat a year that has Dark Knight and Iron Man.

"#5. Heroes are Inconsistent"

I would say I agree with this, because it's a valid point, except it's true in the comics too.

Too much fanboy handwringing, whining and nitpicking drowns out any valid points he might have.

Without reading the article, I will take a guess and say that I agree with #'s 3, 7, 8 and 10. The guy is way off about 4-6, and I am indifferent to 1, 2 and 9.

When Iron Man’s archenemy, the Mandarin, was revealed to be a mere persona played by a drunk Brit in Iron Man 3, words such as “butthurt” and “get over it” were thrown at fans.

Usually by other comic book fans.

Probably the guy is speaking from first-hand experience, because if there is something he's familiar with, is butthurt. Any valid criticism he may have is buried beneath copious amounts of it.

Is this guy seriously complaining that the Mandarin in the movies is not like the Mandarin originally in the Hulk comic books? I can't blame Marvel for changing a character who would be offensive to both Chinese-Americans as well as native Chinese.

P.S. Never mind. He's actually complaining about comic book fans complaining that the movies aren't 100% faithful to the books.

"Hulk comic books"?
