Y&T have confirmed the release of a four-disc set titled Earthquake: The A&M Years 1981-85, which will include six studio albums, B-sides and a set of rare live recordings.

Dave Meniketti’s veteran band joined A&M Records soon after changing their name from the longer Yesterday And Today. Their releases via the label included 1981′s defining moment Earthshaker, along with Black Tiger and Out For The Count, neither of which have been legally available in Europe for some time.

Live tracks from the Reading Festival in 1982 and Monsters Of Rock in 1984 are also included in a collection which the label describes as “definitive”. They add: “If you want to hear Y&T in their prime, if you want to get a taste of why they were regarded as one of the world’s greatest hard rock bands, the music on these four CDs is all you need. It represents the glory age of a glorious band.”

Y&T completed their latest UK tour last month and are midway through a European trek, taking in Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, France, Italy, Sweden and Spain.

I love these guys!

Pretty damn cool-not sure if these are remastered (the remasters were very good and done with the band's approval, although I only have 2 of them). I can't believe such a thing is happening.

This does not include the Geffen years or anything recent, but this is the classic, best and most popular material. Dave Meneketti is such an underrated player and singer.

This boxset is only 12.99 lbs in the UK and $34 from Amazon in the States.

If there are any fans on here (not sure if there are), this is a steal!

I might be in on this. Y&T albums were always a mixed bag for me, some great stuff with some mediocre stuff mixed in. Great players and their performances were smokin' on the Open Fire live album. Hopefully the cover art for Black Tiger and Mean Streak will be included in this set's artwork, because those were good album covers. And yeah, Meniketti was a fantastic singer and guitarist. Always thought the Van Halen boys should have hired him after Hagar left the band.

Funny they didn't list the Open Fire live record on the cover for this set since the track listing indicates it's there.

Totally agree with ya-great band and great players, but each album had some crap on it.

They just were not consistent enough writers and by 1984 were dumbing things down for the big hit and cam close but ruined their sound. It got much worse when they signed the big-bucks deal with Geffen.

But when they were on, these guys cooked and they were an excellent live act. I saw them in 1984 open for Rush and loved seeing Y&T in concert.

It is both odd and stupid that the Open Fire live album is not mentioned as being included here, which it is.

As for the album covers, I have the Black Tiger and Mean Streak remasters from the band website run by Meneketti and everything is represented and packaged nicely in jewel cases. They also have Earthshaker (which I must get) and In Rock We Trust (which I really don't want). Not sure what they do here with this box.

By the way-their last album Facemelter from 2010 is easily one of the best and heaviest things they have ever done-it is damn good and a new album is on the way.

I got this set a couple weeks ago. Imagine my pure joy when I flipped through the booklet and saw "Mastering : Andy Pearce" as I find his work to be the best in the business. This was followed with great disappointment in listening to it and finding out it's a very loud mastering job, easily the worst mastering job of any Pearce remaster I've heard. It's not horrible to the point where I get lots of noise/distortion/static when listening to it, but it's notably squashed. The only real audio flaw I heard is some static in From The Moon (Black Tiger's intro instrumental) but that didn't sound like it was a result of bad mastering, but rather a defect in the source tape used.

I ran the entire collection through the DR meter and the result was a DR6. Individual albums contained in the collection break down as follows:
Earthshaker = DR6
Black Tiger = DR7
Mean Streak = DR7
In Rock We Trust = DR6
Open Fire = DR7
Down For The Count = DR6
Live On The Friday Rock Show = DR7

Throwing the numbers out, if I were to grade the sound strictly on what my ears tell me I would give it a C-. I'd say it's slightly better than the DR6 would indicate but it's still disappointing, especially when considering who did the mastering.

The 4 disc set comes packaged in an old school "fat boy" double jewel case. The booklet is 16 pages (counting front and back cover). It includes a 4 page essay and there is 1 page dedicated to each album which contains the album cover (only takes up about 1/4th of page, track listing, producer/engineer credits, band members and artwork credits. All songwriting credits are squashed together on page 16 (back cover of booklet).

So the track listing is correct? Because based on what's in the first post, I don't see any B-Sides listed. It would've made the most sense to put the live version of "Summertime Girls" (which was the B-Side for the single) into the track listing from Open Fire rather than just place the studio version on two consecutive discs. For studio tracks, I believe there was a track each from Mean Streak and In Rock We Trust. I think they were both included in the Vault discs that were sold from the band's website.

I have the remasters for Black Tiger and Mean Streak that I got through the band's website.

I think those were done by Ken Lee. I think they are great with a crystal clear sound and some mid-range boost.

Each has a bonus track.

I still need to get Earthshaker and In Rock We Trust.

As far as I know no other albums have been properly remastered.

I don't need this box aside from the live stuff and my dislike for boxes that quash everything together would also make me skip this.

Those "fat boy" cases are awful too!

The track listing in the first post is accurate, no bonus tracks included.
