This week, a Motown classic that had more than one big hit version.
I don't usually like including artists twice, but Diana Ross was involved with two very distinct versions.....the recording with the Temptations, and her spoken verses solo hit......so both options are listed.
I even included an American Idol version for Renny.
Vote favorite version, not favorite artist.

Marvin and Tammi. Used to like Diana's solo version, but now find it too melodramatic and Vegasy.

Voted for Marvin & Tammi. 2nd place would go to Hugh Masekela.

This is one of those songs where I don't feel the need to listen to other versions (besides Marv's and Tammi's).

My sister is a huge Supremes fan so I grew up associating this song with Diana Ross. However, I do prefer her version with The Temptations to the slowed-down ultra-dramatic reading, although I can even enjoy that one if I'm in the right mood.
p.s., I love the Marvin & Tammi version too.

Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell. Probably the best Motown hit ever to not make Billboard's Top Ten.

Marvin & Tammi, no question.
Jamerson's bassline by itself seals it.

There are several really good versions, but you really can't top Marvin and Tammi.
