For those of you that think I spend too much time with the 60s and ignore the 80s, here's a 60s song where most of the covers are from the 80s and later.
This has never been one of my favorite songs, but it fits the topic.
No disrespect to other versions, but I just thought that Soft Cell's version was a game changer, particularly when paired with "Where Did Our Love Go".

I agree. Why is it that I thought for the longest time that this song was sung by Frankie Goes To Hollywood?
Before I heard her version, my favorite was from the Inspiral Carpets. And there are some great rockabilly covers of the song out there too. But Imelda owns it for me now.

Charles should think about using "Where Did Our Love Go" for next week's poll, if he hasn't already planned it ...
I've heard a few versions but since I'm most familiar with Soft Cell's version and I've always liked it, they got my vote. I used to think the line "I love you though you hurt me so" was "I love you though you're ugly so," which I still think it a pretty good line even though I've known the actual lyrics for many years.

My favorite version is a truncated version sung by Triumph The Insult Comic Dog to a surly Michael Jackson fan outside the courthouse during Jackson's trial for a bit on "Late Night With Conan O'Brien"
The fan was pretty much rude to Triumph/Robert Smigel, and after quizzing the man on his fashion sense, Triumph asked if they could sing "Tainted Love" together. Only Triumph sang, with emphasis on the "boop boops".

I have a different Motown song planned for next week, but might switch off.
The thng is, I don't list versions of songs used only in medleys, so Soft Cell wouldn't be one of the poll options. They released Tainted Love by itself as well as the medley one.
