Love these guys, John Powers started this band after the break-up of "The LA's". I have all these albums already but with all this bonus content I need to get these.

Links are now in the first post. Here's the press release from Edsel/Demon, which includes complete track listings (note that the release date has been pushed back to February 3rd): Quote: CAST All Change / Mother Nature Calls / Magic Hour / Beetroot Four Deluxe CD & DVD editions of original albums released 27th January 2014 on Edsel Records
Deluxe 2CD+DVD* editions remastered featuring the original studio album + exclusive bonus tracks
Includes original artwork, high-quality new packaging plus new sleeve notes + new interviews with Cast frontman John Power
On 27th January 2014, long running catalogue label Edsel Records are pleased to present deluxe and remastered, 2CD+DVD* editions of the four original albums from 90’s Merseyside four piece, Cast.
Undoubtedly the definitive editions of the band’s catalogue, each release will come with original artwork, high-quality new packaging, exclusive bonus audio, extra tracks plus new sleevenotes. These superb packages will also include new interviews with Cast frontman John Power.
Labelled ‘The Who of the 90’s’, Noel Gallagher once described watching Cast play live as “a religious experience.” Formed in 1992 from the ashes of two of the most lauded guitar bands of recent times – The La’s and Shack, Cast released four albums between 1995 and 2001.
Their debut album, ‘All Change’ (1995), a delightful slice of scouse psychedelic pop, was released on Polydor Records at the height of the Britpop movement, and became the highest selling album for the label, selling over one million copies and spawned four Top 20 hit singles – ‘Fine Time’, ‘Alright’, ‘Sandstorm’ and ‘Walkaway’.
Further commercial success continued with the Stonesy/Faces-inspired platinum selling album ‘Mother Nature Calls’ (1997) which peaked at #3 and spawned two additional top ten hits with ‘Live the Dream’ and ‘Guiding Star’ and one top twenty hit with ‘I'm So Lonely’.
The band moved towards a heavier sound for third album, ‘Magic Hour’ (1999), keen to distance themselves from the Britpop movement. First single ‘Beat Mama’ hit the top ten but the Britpop movement was faltering and a number of Cast's contemporaries disbanded (e.g. Kula Shaker, Dodgy, Smaller and The Seahorses.).
The band’s fourth album would eventually lead to the band’s split. ‘Beetroot’ (2001) used Latin beat sounds as the band largely abandoned the ethos of producing simple yet catchy three minute pop songs. With only one single released from the album, ‘Desert Drought’, failing to make an impact, the band split the following year.
*Beetroot to be a Deluxe CD+DVD

I only have the first album. I liked it at the time but never got any of the others (mostly because I never found them for a reasonable price). I need to give the first one a spin again to see if I'm inspired to buy these new versions. Right now those Amazon UK editions would come out to about $18 each, which might be more than I'm willing to spend, but perhaps I'll change my mind after hearing "All Change" again.

Linda wrote: WAN more thing if you want to build an instant Cast collection -- in addition to the expanded versions of their four original albums above, also get the first John Power solo album Happening For Love, which is basically a fifth Cast album: Amazon USAhttp://www.amazon.com/dp/B00007DNDW/?tag=imwan-20Amazon UKhttp://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00007DNDW/?tag=imwan-21His later solo releases veered off into folk and blues, but the first one will make any Cast fan happy. I have this solo CD as well and your right Linda, it's like a 5th Cast album. Being the front man it doesn't surprise me. I have the Deluxe Edition of "All Change" and quite afew import singles across the 4 albums. With that said the reissues will be ordered, just love these guiys, what can I say? Rick A.

Received these today. They're all in nice hardback packaging which gives them a genuinely "deluxe" feel: I've become quote fond of this style sleeve for expanded editions and hope that the labels all switch to this. Looks great on the shelf -- like miniature books -- and doesn't feel flimsy. (The forthcoming DE of Oasis' Definitely Maybe will be in this kind of packaging too.) Now, Cast's albums were well-recorded to begin with, so I didn't really expect any sonic revelations. All Change, however, has a noticeably fuller bottom end which makes the album sound somewhat more like the Who-influenced sound which John Power said at the time that Cast were going for. Excellent results. On Magic Hour, it turns out that the album DOES have "All Bright" included after all, so EVERY studio recording is here! Having all the gazillion Cast B-sides tidily in the same packages with their respective albums is a joy. Much nicer to see on the shelf than the long procession of slimlines and digipaks which had sat in that part of my collection since the '90s. I'm very pleased and would absolutely recommend these Deluxe Editions.

I agree with both your comments, the packaging which is great both for reading and on the shelf, they just look great. Also about the singles, I have quite afew so now I can enjoy them so much more being in all one place. Underrated and especially unappreciated. Hopefully these reissue will right that wrong. Rick A.

I played "All Change," which is the only Cast album I've ever owned, this morning for the first time in years. I always liked the album but not enough to check out the rest of their catalog. A couple of years ago I considered buying their later albums but they were super-expensive. Now I have the conundrum of possibly ordering these expanded editions from the UK (for about $14 each after currency conversion) or buying the original single-CD pressing which can now be had at much more reasonable prices via 3rd party sellers. These new packages look really nice but is the bonus material worth the extra expenditure? And how do the later albums compare to "All Change"?

You've just got to own Mother Nature Calls for 'Dance Of The Stars' and 'She Sun Shines' as few songs grab you the way those two do so I'd recommend getting this one at least.

Back then this side of water we lined up on day of release, (I hung out with students at the time!) and bought them like we did with Supergrass and a number of great groups at the time.

Thanks. It looks like the original CD pressings of "Magic Hour" and "Mother Nature Calls" can be had at very reasonable prices now, which wasn't the case when I looked just a couple of years ago. "Beetroot" is still very expensive, so if I get really into those other two and want more from them, I may have to splurge on the expanded edition.

If I also get "Beetroot," either the original or the expanded edition, won't that be enough for a casual fan like me who's trying to save some money by not buying the expanded editions? Where does The Collection fit in if I have the others?

Cast were like Oasis in that their single sides were not only numerous, but were as good as anything on the albums themselves. The first three titles have practically become double albums in these deluxe incarnations.
IMLO: Mother Nature Calls is slightly less immediate than All Change, Magic Hour is their finest hour, Beetroot is a bunch of good songs hidden beneath a weird "dance" production. The first three are among the best albums of the era, easily.

It's not essential but rounds out a collection of the original released studio albums and can be got cheaply used should you wish. If you were to go down the route at some point of getting the expanded editions, then there wouldn't be any need to purchase it as the tracks appear as bonus tracks to those re-issues.

Thanks for the follow-up, Linda & kajafan. I just ordered the original Magic Hour and Mother Nature Calls from AmazWAN. I'm looking forward to finally hearing them after all these years, and I'm very pleased with the price I paid for each. Depending on how I feel about them, I might eventually get The Collection, but for now I'll focus on these two albums. I also like what I heard of clips from the first John Power album, so that may be on my wish list soon.
As for Oasis, I was a fan from the beginning, so the expanded editions that are coming our way this year are no-brainer purchases for me. I completely understand how Cast fans must be excited about these expanded versions. They look very impressive.
