Echo & The Bunnymen have announced the release of their new studio album. Titled Meteorites, it marks the band’s 12th full-length effort to date and first since 2009′s The Fountain. It will be released in the UK on April 28th and in the US on June 3rd through 429 Records. That’s the album artwork below.

I am, of course, a huge fan of their first four albums. Porcupine and Ocean Rain in particular.
Of their more recent work I really enjoy "Flowers" but they can be more spotty and I'd like them to embrace their weirdness just a little more. They are at their best, IMO, when their pop sensibilities are combined with their experimental side.
One of the best bands of the 80's. Let's hope this album is a return to form after the mediocre Fountain.

Is it bad that my favorite E&tBM album is Reverberation, the one without Ian?
Don't get me wrong, I like most of the other stuff, but I absolutely love Reverberation.
Yeah-that's not good! Reverberation is a mess to me-Echo & The Bogusmen as Mac once said. But to each his own.
To be clear, I'm sure much of my love for that album is due to that being the only lineup of the band I've seen live. I chatted briefly with Jake Brockman before the show, before my friend I was with let me know he was with the band.
I just like how much that album revels in bright psychedelia, rather than the dreary package they wrap around a core of psychedelia on their other stuff.
Absolutely, they shouldn't have called that band by that name, but judged on its own merits, it's pretty awesome.

I'm a big fan as well but I count everything from Evergreen forward as awesome. I like dreary or maybe I like there sound of dreary whatever the case an EATB release never disappoints me. Okay, "What are you going to do with your life" could be considered a bit maudlin but at least you can listen to it all the way through. So many bands today put out an albums worth of material of which only two or three songs are actually listenable. I like how EATB keep the track number to 10 songs. Yes they could obviously put three or so more songs on but why? I am looking forward to this release myself, I can't wait. BTW, Electrafiction "ROCKS". It's loud, in your face, brazen R&R. I highly recommend picking it up if you haven't done so already. If you can find a copy of the 2 disk version buy it but the more popular single disk version is just fine. Enjoy!

Do you like this new one Doozle?
I really do, although it took me a while to find my feeling with it.
It's great to see it doing well (also made the UK Top 40), and fans are mostly (not totally) in approval.

It's been my experience with EATB releases that complete approval is an inpossability at best. Most want a return to the earlier loud sound while the band tends to become more mellow. The thing is I really like their take on mellow. Heck I even like The a Fountain, it's a great album containing an entire CDs worth of listenable songs. I haven't had the chance to listen to Meteorites yet (I'm away from home) but I will pop it in soon as I get back.EATB consistently release very good sounding albums. I wish all my favorite bands would be as consistent as they are!
