I'm going to LA in two weeks to meet my newest clients, and they are taking me to the Troubadour. I can't wait to see the place where the Eagles and Linda Rondstadt and others made names for themselves (and from where John Lennon was famously thrown out). I'm also planning to drag them to the Whiskey A Go Go. Any other important venues I should drag them to while I'm out there?
Is the Hollywood Hawaiian Hotel still around? Maybe I'll go there and sing Desperadoes Under The Eaves.

Thanks Charles. I hit that last time I was there and it was awesome! I might have to go back. If I remember correctly, there's an In N Out Burger close by too. Mmmm

I have seen the Capitol building, but I don't think I've done the drive down Hollywood Blvd to Vine. I need to check that out. What about the canyons? Are they worth driving through? I'll have about 6 hours on my own and I'm going to rent a car.

I went to McCabe's when I was out there in 1995. That was a fun place.
If you're on Hollywood Blvd, go ahead and drive up in the canyons. They are right there at the end of Hollywood Blvd. and it isn't that big of an area. Just drive slowly. The roads are very narrow, as I recall. That was also in 1995, so my information may be quite ancient.
If you haven't read it already, you might want to look at "Laurel Canyon" by Michael Walker. It may give you some sights to look for. There was also a book and video called "Canyon of Dreams" to look for. As I recall, I saw the video but didn't look at the book. I think there was also a video on the Troubador that came out a few years ago on PBS.
DanO made me look like a rock star last time I was there. He told me about the secret menu, so I looked cool when I ordered stuff my friend had never heard of.

Canyon of Dreams is an excellent book - the complete history of the LA music scene from the 40's forward.
Never seen the video though - now I'll have to look for that one...
I never wanted to go to LA, but after reading the book I would like to visit Laurel Canyon and maybe Malibu but I still prefer northern California - SF, Monterey/Carmel and Yosemite...
Enjoy your trip! California is such another world.....especially after this winter that won't ever end...
