Product Description
Deep Purple was the biggest selling album act in America when they embarked on a 28 date tour promoting their new album 'Burn'. The undoubted climax of this tour was headlining the California Jam Festival at Ontario Speedway in California, in front of 200,000 people.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of this historic event. Their explosive set is presented here on CD for the first time ever. The set list includes tracks from 'Burn', as well as classics like 'Space Truckin' and 'Smoke On The Water'.

1. Burn
2. Might Just Take Your Life
3. Lay Down, Stay Down
4. Mistreated
5. Smoke On the Water
6. You Fool No One
7. Space Truckin'

Any reason to expect this would be an upgrade?

Bump for track listing.

As per Geff's question, I assume this is a typical Eagle release taking the audio from the DVD soundtrack. That was the best issue of this show to date, so I am interested in the CD.

But some Eagle releases are wayyyy too loud.

This statement is patently false. Tracks from Purple's renowned California Jam concert were first released on CD in 1996 as California Jamming in the U.K. and Live At The California Jam in the U.S. The sound was just so-so and the CD was missing one track from the set, "Lay Down, Stay Down."

In 2003, the "Sonic Zoom" official bootleg label run by the Deep Purple Appreciation Society released Just Might Take Your Life, an upgraded version from an improved source with the missing track now included. My guess is that this Eagle release is the third in a series (after Paris 1975, from 2012, and Copenhagen 1972, from last year) that reissues now out of print DPAS titles (and also advertises them as newly remastered).

The rights to these recordings always rested with the band's original 1968-76 management and once both former managers passed away, the licensing for whatever reason shifted from the DPAS to Edel Records (Deep Purple's current label) and have been reissued, on Edel in Europe and (as with Purple's latest studio album) on Eagle in the U.S.

I purchased the Paris and Copenhagen Eagle reissues because both at least had some extra content—Paris a radio interview and Copenhagen a radio interview plus 3 bonus tracks from 1973 featuring the Mark II lineup. Based on the track listing on Amazon, this 2014 version of the Cal Jam set has no extras, although to be fair that would require a second CD as the full set is pushing the 80 minute single CD time limit.

Full story here on the 1996 & 2003 releases from the DPAS' thorough Deep Purple discography:

Are the Eagles of the 2 previous releases (Paris & Copenhagen) louder than the Sonic Zooms? Eagle tends to use horribly loud & compressed masters. I already own Just Might.....

Geff, yes I'd say both Eagles are louder than the Sonic Zooms although frankly I listen to so much music in the car nowadays that it's hard to be precise how much louder.

I got Paris to see how it sounded and Copenhagen to get the 3 bonus tracks from 1973 on CD--the 3 already were available on DVD but I like to listen to music in the car. I really don't see any reason to get the Eagle Cal Jam.

There IS however a potentially newish-to-CD Mark III release in the pipeline--apparently a complete release of the 1975 show in Graz, Austria, that was partially released on the 1996 double CD Mark III The Final Concerts. Source: See http://www.facebook.com/deeppurple6876 —you'll need to scroll down a bit.

The original release from Blackmore's last 3 concerts before he originally left, 1976's Made In Europe, is thought to mainly be from a show in Saarbrucken, Germany.
