Product Description
The 21st October is a date for Mike + The Mechanics fans to mark boldly in their calendar. On that day Mike and the band will release a new 2 disc collection of hits, b-sides and rarities spanning 25 years of M+TM.

Or, if you’re not the waiting type, you can pre-order ‘The Singles 1986 – 2013′ on Amazon now.

Not content with merely putting together a collection of hits, and never a band to rest on its collective laurels, M+TM have also recorded a new track ‘When my Feet Don’t Touch the Ground’, written by Mike and Roachford, especially for this release.

But wait… there’s more!

The never before released track ‘One By One’, featuring the vocal talents of both Paul Carrack and the late, great Paul Young, also features in this new CD-set. The rare track takes its place among a carefully curated selection of B-sides, as well as the new track, on the second disc.

This is the first time Mike + The Mechanics have collected together all their biggest cross label hits for release in one package. It’s been a process which has inspired a lot of pride and satisfaction in Mike:

“I am proud of the writing and recording of so many of the songs and of all the musicians involved along with the producers/ engineers and technical staff. Especially to Paul Carrack and Paul Young two of the finest voices. And now to Andrew Roachford and Tim Howar who are carrying on the Mechanics sound with me. That sound is the combination of everyone involved and the fact that people can recognise it is one of our best achievements.”

With its non-stop hits, previously unreleased tracks and sumptuous artwork we’re sure that this is a collection M+TM fans will definitely want on their shelves.

Here’s the full track listing:

Silent Running
(On Dangerous Ground)
All I Need Is A Miracle
The Living Years

I'll check this one out. Thanks! I have a comp ("Rewind"), but it was ruined by including "All I Need Is A Miracle '96" instead of the hit version.

RUINED AGAIN - BUYER BEWARE! the liner notes do NOT list "All I Need Is A Miracle" as the '96 remake. i'm effing pissed as hell. this kind of false advertising with misleading liner track-listing/liner notes is nothing shy of thievery and is certainly unethical! SHAME ON YOU... BOOOO!

Maybe Jimbo can confirm, is this the hit version or the remake?

Dang. As soon as I get mine, it goes right back. Typical record company crap. Thanks for the warning.

I hope Richard D. doesn't mine me copying his review on Amazon. It's very informative, I owe the guy a big Thanks because I WAS going to spring for this. Not now. :ohno:

I always loved Mike & The Mechanics and picked this 2CD set up to get some (hopefully) newly remastered versions of all the old hits and a CD of rarities. First of I was totally disappointed that the CD's were mastered so damn "loud" !!! Why do record companies feel compelled to do this now?? It totally ruins the sound.....

And secondly, why wasn't the original version of "All I Need Is A Miracle" not used here??????????

I thought I read this was changed to The Singles 1986-2014 with another new song as well?

Also, it irritates me when labels can't even get the years right! It was 1985 not 1986!

I remember the Sting comp Fields Of Gold: The Best Of Sting 1984-1994. It was 1985 not 1984 even if you use the year of recording which they aren't smart enough to do anyway and that would still be wrong.

Fucking morons.

I can't believe they left the original version of All I Need is a Miracle off of this. I simply can't believe it. :(

ok... before i even attempt to mail this 2CD monstrosity back to amazon.co.UK,
let me offer it to anyone here domestically (in the USA) first.
it's yours for $15 - shipping/handling included.
perhaps you want it for either the remaster or disc 2 material.
please just send me a PM here and we'll work out the details.

I did some research, and it turns out that in the UK, the original version of "All I Need Is a Miracle" stalled at #56 in 1986, while the '96 version reached #27. So UK fans are probably satisfied with the line-up as is.

Of course, given a whole CD of extras, there was pleny of room for both versions.

It is absolutely insane that they would release a CD without the real version (that was a hit). Wow what a mistake by someone at the record company.

I'm astonished by this! Here in the US the situation is quite the opposite--the original version is still a radio staple while I've NEVER heard the '96 mix played anywhere. But I guess this release is clearly intended for the UK market. The inclusion of the '96 version makes more sense now, I guess, but I still don't like it.

Yep they could have at least included both mixes.

and what about the issue of MISrepresenting the song as the original on the liner notes?
(i.e. it certainly doesn't say it's the '96 version.)

Yeah, oddly the Mechanics had little success in the UK at first and it was only later that they did in the UK.

In the US, their popularity sunk like a stone in the 90s and that was that.

It was a little too Poppy for me, but the first 3 albums had a few good songs.

Their prior "Rewind" collection only included the remake as well. Was hoping this new one would rectify that. Back to Amaz UK it goes!
