Def Leppard will release a Deluxe Edition of their 1996 album, “Slang”, on February 10 (Febraury 11 in North America).

The reissue will be available in 3 formats: a CD Deluxe Edition and Digital Edition containing the original 11 album tracks re-mastered and original rare bonus tracks made up of demos, alternate versions and mixes with a series of new songs recorded during the time the band was creating Slang. Most of these additional bonus tracks have never been released.

A special iTunes Digital Edition will have everything from the Digital Edition, plus a further set of additional bonus tracks.

A Double Vinyl Deluxe Edition will also be available and will feature the original album, and its own set of exclusive songs.

The band will release a special Slang Video Collection on February 11 exclusively on iTunes that will feature videos from singles “Slang”, “Work It Out” and “All I Want Is Everything.”

Def Leppard are regrouping to record some new music next month.

Weird choice for a deluxe as it was not a big hit for the band.

I would rather see a deluxe of High 'N' Dry myself, but I guess this is cool that it's coming out.

Yeah, the first 2 would be better choices. I do like this one though.

Actually this looks like one of the best deluxe sets I've ever seen.

Move With Me Slowly (Japanese bonus cut - I don't have it in my collection)
Burn Out (was released as a B-side on a single for a later album - I don't have it in my collection)
Worlds Collide (was released as a B-side on a single for a later album - I don't have it in my collection)
Can't Keep Away From the Flame (Japanese bonus cuts on a greatest hits album - Vault - I don't have it in my collection)
Raise Your Love (???)
Black Train (???)
All On Your Touch (???, maybe early version of All I Want Is Everything?)
Move On Up (guessing that this would probably be an early version of Work It Out?)

That's a bunch of songs many Def Leppard fans may not have. To package them all together and then supplement them to get 2 full discs of material looks like a pretty good bargain. It seems like this is a band that gets it, doesn't make sense to sit on things in the vault now with the way physical product sales are decreasing...now is as good a time as any to get all this stuff into the market.

As far as the Slang album, I really liked half of it and was disinterested in the other half. But I do think it was a pretty good effort for a band trying to break the mold of what they were. I think it's a better album than the last few they have put out.

I only like the first 3 albums so am I waiting for the ass-kicking first 2 albums to stop being ignored.

Still, nice to see they keep doing these for the fans.

You think they'd at least do High 'N' Dry -- it was their first album with Mutt Lange as producer and the first one to have some impact (thanks to MTV) in the US.

I remember hearing this song on the radio once or twice when the album first came out...

Their song "Tomorrow" from maybe 4 years ago has somehow become a favorite of both of my daughters. I like it too.

Slang was an interesting turn after the Leppard-by-numbers Adrenalize... I think it's pretty front-loaded and runs out of steam in the second half, though. I'm disappointed to learn that there will likely be download-exclusive and vinyl-exclusive tracks, as it would be nice to have everything on made available CD.

In addition to what's already been discussed, there was a 2CD edition of the album which included the 6-track Acoustic In Singapore EP. Maybe that will serve as the source for some of the addition bonus material.

I absolutely love this album. The same way Hysteria failed to find an audience at first, this one was a bit different. The difference with Hysteria though is that PolyGram didn't stick with it due to the changing music scene and let it die. That, and as others have said, it goes horribly ballad-heavy in the second half and completely loses steam.

The sound on the first half is a bit Zep-inspired, the same way the abandoned stuff they were working with Steve Clark on before he died was (that found a poorly-remixed home on Retro-active). Adrenilize killed the band, and they had no hopes of getting on radio by the time Slang came out. If something of this quality had come out when Adrenilize did, DL would probably still be going strong.

IMO, "Slang" and "X" are the only albums worth a poop since Clark died. The rest have been horribly disappointing.

Never owned this album before. Mine arrived today.

Nice, old school, big double CD jewel case and cool booklet with thoughts from Joe Elliott and pics of various CD singles etc.

Great package for $10. YAY to physical media!

Now, to actually listen to it...

This album is much better than I remember. I bought the Deluxe Edition from the iTunes Store as it included 8 exclusive bonus tracks. 38 tracks in total for $11.99.

Cool, but the iTunes download thing is not for me, personally.

So this is not the standard UMG Deluxe Edition slipcase packaging. Interesting...

It's because this deluxe edition has been released not on UMG but through Def Leppard's independent label Bludgeon Riffola, distributed by Mailboat Records.
