I get fairly regular bouts of insomnia -- not too serious, just that I wake up in the middle of the night and can't fall back asleep. The method I use to fall back asleep is to turn on a movie. That way, I can stop thinking "fall back asleep." I just get comfortable in front of a movie, and if I drift off, good. If not, I see a movie.
In this thread I will log the movies I view specifically under those conditions, with only the additional "rule" being that only complete viewings count. In other words, this thread only logs those occasions where I'm not able to drift off and I do see the whole movie.
Last night -- Election, with Reese Witherspoon and Matthew Broderick. A very entertaining film. And very timely, since I hope to get a viewing of Nebraska in soon, by the same director.

My go to for this is the Peter Jackson Tolkein movies. Takes about 30-40 minutes, but I nod off every time.
There are movies that have the reverse, that will keep me up watching til the end, no matter how tired I am. Full Metal Jacket does that.

I stayed up until 2 last night to watch a movie, but not because of imsomnia. I wanted to see The Ruins, and I didn't think there would be enough room on the DVR to record it.

Though I've never seen it (and don't have much trouble with insomnia), I would bet that Andy Warhol's "Sleep" would be great for an insomniac. It's five hours and twenty minutes of some guy lying there asleep.

If I try to fall back to sleep with the TV, I usually get interested in whatever it is I'm watching and it takes too long to fall asleep again. I found the best way to fall asleep if I'm having trouble, is to read a book on the kindle. It requires a little more thinking than just watching TV so it gets my mind away from whatever it was keeping me awake and I usually nod off pretty quick.

I mean I guess she probably still is, but back then she seemed to specialize in more outre character roles that she excelled at, instead of vanilla romantic leads. Besides Election, she's also similarly convincing and hilarious in a low-budget independent called Freeway.

This is the log for when it actually occurs. The next day or soon after.
