From Newsarama: PREACHER COMES TO HBOFor years, fans have been saying that if Garth Ennis and Steve Dillion’s Preacher were to come to any screen, only HBO could do it justice.
Apparently, DC, Vertigo, Ennis, Dillion and whatever gods watch over Time Warner agree.http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=92508Now, while I don't really feel that comic books need to be translated to other media to validate them (Preacher works just peachy as a funnybook), I do think this is a fantastic idea. It's a great way to expose my all-time favourite series to a much wider audience.

Wow! If they're going to do this semi-faithfully, it'll be a pretty damn bold series sure to offend just about everyone.
Count me in!

Im skeptical...loved this series but its a great example of what works in comic book format that I do not know can work on the tv screen (censors, budget constraints, etc).
But good for Ennis and Dillon!

From the makers of "Grumpy Old Men" and "Pretty in Pink" comes a controversial, dark exploration or religion, inbreeding, sadism, and violence.
Can you hear the commercial in your head?
[cue Peter Gabriel's "Solsbury Hill"]
"Jesse Custer is a confused preacher."
[shot of Custer getting whacked by Genesis]
"His girl Tulip doesn't know what she wants to do with her life."
[shot of Tulip shooting a guys jaw off his face]
"And Cassidy just wants to know when he can eat."
[shot of Cassidy tearing out a man's jugular]
"Together, they'll learn about the true meaning of friendship. Coming this fall to HBO."

This is reassuring to me.
The DD Director's Cut was fantastic and had just about exactly the feel a Preacher movie or TV show should have.

It's HBO, not the Hallmark Channel.

But it'll play for a season or two and then get canned, right?

I doubt it, it will do well on HBO.
Especially since it has an audience already.

You have read Preacher, haven't you?
Arseface? Inbred yokel Billy-Bob? When TC fucks the chicken? Just about every scene with Herr Starr? The DD Director's Cut evoked that kind of feel?

I think premium television is the way to go for certain comic book film projects... animation or live action.

It was warm and fuzzy. No, not the chicken!

Especially since it has an audience already. It could, but Deadwood was cancelled for being too expensive and I still don't know hwy Carnivale was dropped. Frankly, a Preacher series reminds me of a cross between those two. Though, going back to the cost, with some of the sets and locations (thinking about the change from the bayou to France) it could end up being cost prohibitive. Still, I really hope this goes. If my dad were still alive, I think he would dig this show.

I dunno about the cost. A lot of that could easily be faked.
Some generic underground Grail sets. A French villa. It's not Battlestar Galactica-level set construction or anything. I think it'd be doable.
But, hey, I know next to nothing about it. I just wanna see the show

Different source material, so adjusted to fit the two different sources, yes, that kind of feel.

The cost won't be very high, the sets aren't complex, it's not a period piece so they won't have to build whole towns like they did for Deadwood and Carnivale, I don't think it will be a problem.

Not HBO, but AMC? http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page ... e&id=49203 Unconfirmed reports surfaced over the weekend that AMC has ordered a pilot of "Preacher" possibly involving Seth Rogen. The report from Bad Ass Digest, which cites unnamed sources as saying the network plans to adapt the Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon Vertigo comic -- at least in a pilot. Rogen said via Twitter, "Looks like about seven years of hard work are about to pay off. I may get to bring one of my favourite stories ever to life," followed by a Tweet with the names of "Preacher" characters.

AMC? I don't think I'd be interested in that.
