I've been feeding my cats Iams brand cat food for a few years. I'm having to have one of them put to sleep on Monday for kidney failure, he's only 11 years old. My other cat seems okay, but he isn't eating as much as he usually does, so I'm taking him in for a check up next week. Wish him luck. If you've been feeding your cat any of these brands, have him/her checked out ASAP.

I guess I'm a mean cat owner. I feed my cat dry catfood, occasionally giving her actual tuna.

Here's a picture of Jimmy. We took him to the vet last week because he hadn't been eating, had lost a lot of weight and was constantly drinking water. Found out yesterday that his kidneys have completely failed. We're gonna try to make his last weekend the best we can for him. After balling all day yesterday wondering if we did anything to cause or hasten the kidney failure, my wife and I are fucking outraged to read about the cat food recall today.

I'm sorry David :( I'm very fond of cats myself, I've had a couple as pets and cried buckets when they died.

Sorry David. I know how difficult losing a pet is.

I was thinking the same thing, David. Sometimes it scares me that our pets are dependent on food that we can't guarantee. At least we generally cook our own food.

David, I still feel the loss of my dog so strongly that I will never have another pet. (She died in 1994.) I'm sorry to hear about Jimmy, and I hope that you're coping as well as you can.

I'm sorry to hear about your kitty. I had a cat...when he died, I lost it. I haven't had a cat since. He was the best cat in the world, to me. I don't think I'll have another cat....It was a hard loss.

David, condolences on Jimmy's diagnosis. I can't imagine what you and your wife are going through. I've got two dogs myself, and as much as they drive me crazy, it would make me homicidal if anyone did something to them, either deliberately or through simple lack of thinking.

David, I'm so sorry to hear about your cat, but I'm grateful for the heads-up. I hadn't heard about this recall and am counting myself pretty lucky that the food I give my little ninjas isn't on the list. I feel for you.

I really appreciate the kind words and sympathies guys and gals; it means a lot. Jimmy is such a sweet cat. He's been a problem child as long as we've had him, but I wouldn't have traded him for the world. He let me know the first day that he was going to be a handful. We picked him from the litter when he was a kitten because we wanted a companion for our other cat, Tigger. Tigger wasn't too happy to see him the first day we brought Jimmy home though, he would attack every chance he got. So the first night we had him, we locked him in the bedroom with us, so Tigger wouldn't get him. He was wondering freely around the floor until he decided to climb up on the bed. He was still small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, at this point. After he climbed up on the bed, he climbed up on my back. HIs razor sharp claws were digging into my back thru the sheets, it tickled more than anything else. But then, I felt something warm and wet on m back.......the little rascal had taken a dump on me! :x My wife, Amy, thought it was funny as hell, of course. He developed epilepsy within his first year, and had seizures the rest of his life. I knew those would take their toll on him eventually. I just mentioned to Amy a couple of months ago that he was probably reaching his last years, due to the seizures. I'm sure he would've had a couple of good years left in him if I hadn't been poisoning him for the past few months. The Iams website stated that they "regret any inconvenience that this may've caused." Fuckers. They just better hope that Tigger turns out okay.

Thanks for the heads up David.
We hadn't heard anything about the recall.
Fortunately, none of the food we had was on the recall list.

Really sorry to hear about your situation. We've got 5 of the little beasts, and they really are like our children. My heart really goes out to you at a time like this. The Mrs sends her condolences as well.

The news shows this morning were commenting on the catfood issues by the various companies.

JIMMY LIVES!!!

He got a last minute reprieve. The original plans were to have him put to sleep yesterday, but after spending the weekend with him, we determined that he wasn’t ready to give up yet. He’s been acting sick, of course, but other than that, he’s been acting like his normal self, doing the things he enjoys. We took him to the vet yesterday and they’re doing diuresis, which is flushing the kidneys with water and electrolytes to try and get the toxins out. They’re going to do it again today. The level of toxins in Tigger’s blood was twice what it should be, but the doc thinks he’ll be okay given time and uncontaminated food. It’s still too early to determine how things will go for Jimmy, but we at least had to give him a fighting chance. Thanks again for the kind words, my friends.
