We've been talking about it............ here it is. I'm not buying (no money & currently no need though the need could change if I have to move to an apartment).

I'll wait to see about the Pono unit.[i'm on the Pono mailing list btw at mypono.com so if there are any updates on the unit i'll get them]......I'd actually love to be a Pono tester if I could figure out how to become one.

Pono intrigues me as well.

I'll wait for Amazon before considering these kinds of devices, but I'm honestly not sure that I could even hear a difference between V0 and FLAC in a portable environment, let alone hi-rez.

yeah, it would have to a very quiet environment with better than average headphones to even notice.

I'm only going there if I end up living in an apartment or other environment where one can't play a stereo due to neighbors. My stereo doesn't even have a headphone jack!

The $1,300 unit in your link says it has 64 GB of space. That would hold what, about 200 albums in FLAC?

The $1300 one says it has a USB input. THe cheaper one doesn't mention USB.

Buying a headphone amp for my Oppo, or just going to bookshelf speakers could also be a cheaper option if needed, but others needs are likely different than mine.

I actually don't hear many folks here other than myself currently mentioning financial issues.

My budget is tight enough that most of the equipment discussed here is not even on my radar.

Curious if the Sony is limited to 44/16? The article doesn't seem to say.

Cool! There's also new info on the Pono I just posted there; perhaps we should merge the 2 threads?

Pono is also a music delivery service (and might be proprietary as you say in that thread), so let's keep these topics separate for now.

OK. I got the impression from the article that it was a portable device; & originally was about to post here when I remembered it had it's own thread.

Pfffft I'm lucky to have money to buy CDs in my budget.
