Yes....it's baaaack - for a little while anyway.

This week is a Bacharach/David classic that charted big on both sides of the pond.

This was suggested by one of the listers.....sorry - forgot who - deleted some of the IMs.

Remember of course, vote for your favorite version of the song....not necessarily your favorite artist.

Voted for Dionne, but love the versions by Dusty & Shelby too.

No disrespect at all to Dionne, Linda, Shelby or many of the others who sing this one beautifully, but once Dusty sang a song, it was hers.

Dusty. One of the tougher picks in the history of these threads.

Bjork, with Linda Ronstadt a close second.

Such a well-written song that I've liked every version I've ever heard, but my vote goes to Linda Ronstadt. Winter Light, the album it comes from, is an overlooked gem too.

One of my favorite songs, done by some of my favorite singers.
Cilla's version uses a bassoon instead of a sax for the solo, and the backup singers are too loud. Dusty's version is sabotaged by the backup singers as well-Dusty is great, but I just can't get past the Chipmunk background vocals.
Sandie Shaw does a piano-heavy version that I don't care for. Sandie is left to compete with both the piano and sax.
Bic Runga's version is pretty, but underwhelming. Bjork is good, but I don't care for the way she closes it out-too sloppy.
Petula Clark recorded the song in several languages but not English, stating that she didn't want to compete with Cilla's and Dionne's versions.

Ronstadt is terrific-there's a touch of power guitar added to the finish which works well.
Olivia's version has some big drums sounds at the finish, and coupled with a great Olivia vocal it adds up to a winner.
It's tough to pick against the original, but I finally chose the live version by Wynonna Judd. It's taken at a slower tempo, but for me that only adds to the
beauty of the song. The build-up to the finish is wonderful.

Tough call. Went with Dionne, the first version I ever heard, so it carries more weight for me. Dusty and Shelby do fine versions, too.
