Excellent news, Linda. Hope this one will be like the ZZ Top box and drop to the $35-$40 range before release. I'll lock in if that happens.

I already own everyone of these. Unless there's an audiophile mastering involved, & I don't think there is, I'd be passing.

Most of these have been reissued as deluxe editions. I'll stick with those, unless this is really cheap.

Finally a box set that I can pass on in that I have all these albums in one version or another.

Bump: Added a larger product image to the first post, and now it's clear which albums will be included. Yet to be confirmed -- bonus tracks (if any) and remastering (if any).

I'm still waiting to hear what mastering was used on these. Anyone hear yet?

Saw this today at J&R. No bonus tracks.

Oh. And at that price? Think I'd rather just fill in the missing, then.

The model of putting 3-5 albums in a budget box without remastering has been very successful in Europe. As the RIAA is squeezing the last $'s out of our generation, the only thing that surprises me is that the USA companies have taken so long to join the bandwagon. Though $52 is a little higher than average, but still at $5.29 a cd it's a good value for those who need these albums.

Part of me thinks these are the late 90's remasters (without the remixes of course). The Kansas, Cheap Trick, BOC, ZZ Top sets were remastered. But I really hate to bite and be pissed if they aren't. I keep checking Amazon.ca and Amazon.co.uk hoping to see reviews. So far there are none.

Those boxes you mentioned used a combo of previous remasters and new ones. None of them had all new remasters, but they didn't need to do that since the previous remasters were very good when Legacy cared.

Not for one second did I think this Purple box was anything but a cash grab (like all the rest come to think of it)!

Just read on this site that they aren't remastered. Bummer. Guess I'll pony up for the AF set instead.

By the way, can anyone tell me if I should just grab the 90's remixes or go with the AF set due to come out in Dec?

Been reading at the Hoffman forums that this more than likely isn't remastered.

Again, should I just grab the 90's remasters with the remixes or go with the AF set due to come out in Dec?

The AF will likely sound a little better. Hoffman's cd's have been almost too flat lately, but the official DP remasters tend to be a bit bright & loud. What kind of sound do you prefer?

I don't mind when it's a little loud, but the brightness (tinny sound) bothers me. Maybe I should just get these.

I think the DP remasters are really good, especially Burn, Come Taste The Band and Stormbringer.

The others were done way back in the mid to late 90's and also sound fine to me, although nothing can make In Rock sound like anything but a distorted ear-bleeding "in the red" mess.

The AF version of In Rock does sound less muddy and a little cleaner, but yeah, that album is never going to have audiophile quality sound due to the way it was recorded and mixed.

I'll add to the chorus - this would be great if I didn't already have all these albums. :)
