I was looking up some information on Amazon related to Carrie Underwood's first release "Some Hearts" and noticed that the title had the following after it..."[Content/Copy-Protected CD]". Then I did a search on Amazon using this string and found out that hundreds of other titles also have the same wording. I thought we ended the whole copy protection fiasco. Is there some new technology that Amazon is using?

It's got nothing to do with Amazon. Most of those discs were never repressed, so new copies are still the same old copyguarded versions.

I don't recall some of these being copy protected originally though. Carrie Underwood? Really?

The Sony BMG family of labels were copyguarding almost all of their mainstream releases around that time. What did you find that you're sure wasn't protected when it originally came out?

The Carrie Underwood that I have is not copy protected, however, it is a club release. That may have been the reason that I got it from a club in the first place. Perhaps I've been asleep on the subject, but I can't believe that they're still openly selling copy protected CDs.

They also could be Australian or UK editions. Copyguarded cd's were much more prevalent in both of those countries at one time than in the US.

Strangely enough, When I first bought copies of Velvet Revolver's "Contraband" and Santana's "All That I Am" a few years ago, I could not rip them in any format. A few weeks ago, I tried ripping Santana into iTunes and it ripped with no problem into ALAC files. I then pulled out my copy of the VR release and it did as well. I am wondering if the Sunncomm Copy Protection is scheme has now been legally hacked by either Apple or Microsoft.

To back up Mr Fuse's recent experience, I just ripped a copy-protected version of Deep Purple's Banana's about 2 weeks ago to load on an iPod. Did the same ALAC conversion into iTunes and had no problems doing so.

That's interesting; it does sound like Apple has added copyguard defeating software in I-tunes.

Unless the DMCA has recently changed, it is against USA law to defeat ANY copyguard; which is why companies like Sly Soft & DVD Fab are based on small islands & in China.

EAC fixes those discs very quickly.

Only an early version of EAC did. The more recent do not. Check the Wiki.

Sly Soft Any DVD is the best fix I know of.
