I honestly thought, especially as the DVD continues to decline into irrelevance, that this title would never happen. Will a similar set devoted to the 1997 Marlins-Indians World Series ever hit the market?

A 1994 World Series set would be pretty sweet and quite an accomplishment. Come on MLB!

I'm happy for Tiger fans but Game 3 is one of the all-time snoozers. 11 walks by Padres pitchers. However I was shocked to see the official time was just 3:11 which compared to those Yankee-Red Sox 21st century games you'd just be in the 5th inning. I'd like to see a set for the 1971 Series - Clemente at his finest. Root Sports replayed the seventh game, which is still taking up a big chunk of my DVR space.

Yeah--in five games, the Padres starting pitchers managed to combine for something like ten total innings and a 14.00 ERA. Still, I'll bet that Tigers fans would also be willing to buy the 1984 ALCS three-game sweep of the Royals...

MLB has released a bunch of this stuff online, but it's likely only a fraction of what's in the vaults. I bought a bootleg of Jack Morris's 1984 no-hitter against the White Sox which NBC broadcast nationally on the Saturday Game of the Week, but was annoyed that the top of the ninth inning was missing. It would be great it that stuff could be available officially, even if only as streaming video. Mark Fidrych's 1976 Monday Night Baseball victory over the Yankees has been rerun in its entirety on cable in recent years, but has never been otherwise available.

I watched quite a few last winter but I've actually put off watching the Braves-Twins Game 7 for sometime this winter when I'll be withdrawing and need to see a game. The Phillies-Cubs slugfest was such a delight to hear Jack Brickhouse have his mind blown. He had been doing Cubs games for 31 years and had never seen anything like that.

It would great if they find a way to release or allow streaming of some of the Game Of The Week broadcasts which would also have the benefit (at least in most cases - not the no hitters) of not knowing the outcome. Not that that stops me from getting caught up in a historic game - I'm still amazed at the '75 World Series (which I own) plays out for instance.

My favorite Detroit Tiger World Series was when they played the Cardinals in 1968. Denny McClain , 31 game winner and Mickey Lolich who won 3 complete games in the series. Al Kaline, Bill Freehand, Willie Horton, Jim Northrup and Mickey Stanley were great to watch.

Of course, the Cardinals with Bob Gibson, one the most feared pictures of all-time with a n ERA 1.12 (unbelievable) who also pitched 3 complete World Series games.
You had battery mate Tim McCarver, Lou Brock who can outrun anything and steal everything, Curt Flood and the power of Orlando Cepeda.

Great World Series, most memorable for me.

It's strange--the little blurb about the 1985 NLCS mentions Jack Buck's "Go crazy" call, but that was the radio call (I think)--I distinctly remember that during the NBC TV broadcast, both Scully and Garagiola simply stopped talking as Ozzie circled the bases and let the crowd noise speak for itself. I miss the days when baseball announcers didn't feel the need to be constantly screaming into their microphones in an effort to make the game seem more exciting.

I know, I'm old.

You're right about this (the call - can't say about your age , it was Buck on the radio and Vince & Joe handle it exactly as you say. If you notice right below in the ad copy they get the year wrong for the Mets-Red Sox too (1985 instead of '86). That game (Mets-RS) by the way was more fun to revisit than I expected and it was a combination of Vince & Joe's call along with the crowd being so electric. Even Vin comments on it. Unfortunately for the '93 Joe Carter HR game Vin was doing the radio and I'll admit my interest was lessened with Sean McDonough & McCarver behind the mic.

Upon checking the Pirate-O's link I see there are several World Series games are available. The b&w thumbnails are goofy as the games themselves are in color as you'd expect for games from the '70s.

I have the 1986 Mets version of this (all 7 WS games, and the 16 inning game 6 NLCS).....fun to have in the collection, but I don't watch it a lot. It's hard to sit through complete games....easier to just FF to the 10th inning of game 6 or the end of game 7.

I never even watched the DVDs of the 3 games the Red Sox won, and I was at one of them (game 1).

The entire 1986 MLB post-season was probably the most epic ever played--I'd love to sit through the entire 1986 ALCS again someday, although some of the most memorable moments were provided by a microphone apparently located much too close to one of the dugouts during one of the games (was it Game 2?)

I think that much of the reason I remember eighties post-season baseball so well is because they were (a) broadcast on the regular networks rather than cable and (b) I was young enough to have no other responsibilities (such as a job) which might have prevented me from watching. By the time the divisional series came into being, the games were still being broadcast on national radio networks, and I tried to listen as I worked--but good luck finding a local radio station willing to carry those games.

And, as we all know, this Series also featured the last home run hit by the true single season home run record-holder: the late, and truly great Roger Maris.
