John Mayer Releases First 'Paradise Valley' Single, 'Paper Doll': Listen
By Erika Ramirez, N.Y. | June 18, 2013 10:06 AM EDT

John Mayer gives fans a taste of his forthcoming album, "Paradise Valley," with his first single, "Paper Doll."

The song's official video features prancercise creator, Joanna Rohrback, performing a "prance to romance to" as Mayer's vocals guide her swiftful moves. "You're like 22 girls in one/ And none of them know what they're running from/ Was it just too far to fall/ For a little paper doll," he croons.

"Paper Doll" comes a month after John Mayer announced his Don Was produced album. "New record this Summer… Not a Born and Raised “plus”… A new group of songs to bring the whole thing up to date with Summer 2013," the singer-songwriter wrote on his Tumblr. "I have that hunger that always precedes something meaningful. See you all soon. And thanks for the warm welcome back to the stage. Getting back on it a little at a time."

Mayer will kick off his first tour in three years on July 6 in Milwaukee, WI after performing at Philly's annual Fourth of July Jam. He'll tour till October, raising funds and awareness of the post traumatic stress effecting military veterans.

Katy Perry and Frank Ocean...guess he (or the record company) got tired of jammy/folky vibe of Born and Raised... Time for HITS again!

Actually listening to the stream, it sounds very similar to "Born And Raised" -- including the Frank Ocean and Katy Perry tracks. Actually Katy sounds pretty sweet on their track.

John Mayer has a reputation for being somewhat of an asshole in real life, but his releases are usually at least solid. I'll give it a listen.

Born and Raised was better than the one before it which I haven't listened to since I bought it. I would love something closer to Continuum though...

Seriously dude. You can have more than 10 or 11 tracks on an album. Really. You can. Honestly. You should try it some time.

I love Mayer, but I'm tired of the 2 or 3 good songs, 7 songs of filler, on each incredibly short album. I would have hoped the time off with his vocal injuries would have led him to make a longer album.

That said, Wildfire might just be my favorite Mayer song...ever.

How? The tracks have previews, but there's no stream.

I have an older version if iTunes so I'm not sure how it works with the newer one. But if you go to iTunes and search for John Mayer, click on his NAME on any title that shows -- it should bring up the John Mayer homepage on iTunes, where it reads "Stream New Album Free".

And incidentally, what is wrong with a 40-minute album? Considering that "Born and Raised" (which was a stellar album) was only released about a year ago, the fact that he has another 11 songs in less than a year, is impressive. And it's a really good album too, following in the vein of "B&R".
