2013 release, the debut album from the Rock supergroup featuring guitarist Richie Kotzen, bassist Billy Sheehan and drummer Mike Portnoy. While all three have Hard Rock and Progressive Rock backgrounds, The Winery Dogs are working towards a Classic Rock sound influenced by Led Zeppelin, Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Grand Funk Railroad and others.

Meant to post this a while back.

I haven't heard it yet but have heard rave reviews.

The album also made the Top 30 so obviously somebody else knows this albums is out. I'd imagine someone here bought it already? if so, let us know how it is!

I bought it and sold it right away. Very good musicians but they didn't sound like a band. Just some guys proving how many chops they could play.

I've only listened through a few times. No big impressions yet, but a couple of casual ones: very mid-tempo; much more like Kotzen's solo stuff than the other two (which is a good thing); don't recall a whole lot of unison tapping stuff or "lead bass."

I'll be going to see them in Seattle in October. Curious to see how it translates and if they break out a lot of instrumental acrobatics playing live.

Based on a few clips I've heard (and seen), this sounds a little disappointing considering the talent involved. Maybe it has to do with my expectations, since I want to hear a shred-fest and that doesn't seem to be the case. Still on the fence about picking this up.

If you're interested in a shred-fest, I've really been enjoying The Aristocrats, which is Guthrie Govan & Marco Minnemann from Steven Wilson's band and Bryan Beller from Mike Keneally's band. Holy crap do those guys know how to play. I still can't believe Dream Theater didn't choose Minnemann to replace Mike Portnoy (even though Mangini is an incredible drummer as well). He's just an absolute monster.

Yep just saw The Aristocrats last week in NYC and they rock! Guthrie is a true guitar god and Marco is one of the best on the drums. Great band.

I talked to Marco about the DT thing and apologized because I was kind of rooting against him only because I figured it meant the end of the Aristocrats if it happened. He said he didn't really want it. I said I thought he was Mangini's equal and that he could have brought a lot to DT, but I was much happier that the Aristocrats went forward. Awesome band.

Eddie Trunk has raved about the Winery Dogs. I think I heard part of a song on his show, and I watched part of a YouTube video of a cover. It didn't send me running to buy the CD. I'd want to hear more before I buy it.

I think this one's a grower. I played through it a few times at home and it didn't make a huge impression. I put it on the iPhone and listened to it on shuffle in the car though and now I realized I've got a couple songs stuck in my head.

I will say though, I'm a fan of Kotzen's solo stuff, and as I said, this sounds more like that stuff than any of Portnoy or Sheehan's other stuff (with exception of maybe Mr. Big).
