Bannings: Who, me?
I heard a story about Sasha Dobson and her new album, Aquarius, on NPR a couple weeks ago. Liked what I heard, so I ordered a copy, which arrived today. I just played it most of the way through, and I'm REALLY liking what I hear. My wife even commented that it was sounding good, who is that?.

The story is that she was pretty much a jazz singer, but she's gone in a new direction with this album, which is more rock sounding. Her father was a well-regarded jazz pianist from the Bay Area. All original songs, very moody, great voice, four-piece band; it's all very nicely done, and I think the songs are borderline great. Looking forward to digging into this more. Already sounds like one of my favorite new discs of the year.

Product Description
Previously revered as an A-list jazz chanteuse, Dobson has completed a transformation from the smoky ballads of her past to emerge a fully-realized modern singer/songwriter with a raw, visceral sound all her own. Between her longstanding association with Norah Jones and the high regard in which she's held in the NYC music community, Dobson is poised for a 2013 breakout on the strength of Aquarius. The album's 11 tracks, produced by Joel Hamilton (Tom Waits, Sparklehorse, The Black Keys), show Dobson's musical vision equaling that of acclaimed contemporary female artists, including Brandi Carlile, Jolie Holland and Lissie.

Let's try some multimedia enticements, like the album's press kit:

And the promo video for "Full Moon":

Thanks, Linda.

BTW, "Full Moon" is probably my least favorite cut, so don't judge the whole disc on that.
