Product Description
3 bonus tracks / 12 page full colour booklet 3,000 word essay, enhanced artwork, memorabilia, rare photos and new interview with Adrian Vandenberg. This might seem to be a fairly obvious statement of fact, but it's easy to forget just how significant Vandenberg became in the early 1980s. A Dutch hard rock band with the style, musicianship, confidence, songs and sound to match anything being done elsewhere. And, for a while it appeared inevitable that they d be destined to achieve greatness. Heading For A Storm was the band's second album, emerging after the unexpected success of their debut which had secured them a foothold in the top 30 of US singles charts with the track Burning Heart . For album #2 they returned to the same producer and studio; that's Stuart Epps and SOL studio on the banks of the River Thames, a facility owned by Jimmy Page. Less confrontational than their debut album, Heading For A Storm , originally issued in 1983, showcased a more mature Vandenberg, one with increasingly sophisticated songs (all written by guitarist Adrian Vandenberg) and far broader scope. The album may not have eclipsed sales of the debut in the USA, where record company politics hampered progress, but in Europe the record gained healthy traction. With cover art painted by Adrian, whose guitar solos also continued to impress, the album is now regarded as an essential cornerstone of the band's legacy.

Great band, great album, great album cover, great guitar work (both cover and guitar by Adrian Vandenberg)!

A very nice choice by Rock Candy who also did the debut album which did quite well in the US. Not sure why this one only did so-so as it was even better. Hopefully Rock Candy will do their third and final album Alibi.

This album had the minor US/MTV hit "Friday Night" which I used to love despite the corny lyrics. Maybe this album was too complex/melodic and European to do well here in the US?

All three of the Vandenberg albums were really good records. Had all of them on vinyl and snapped up the CDs when they first became available in Japan. As far as the States, I'm guessing they did much better in the midwest than in other parts of the country. I am in Wisconsin and the local top 40 stations (not album rock stations, top 40 stations) played the crap out of "Burning Heart."

For years I really looked forward to more stuff with Vandenberg but got very little and, to be honest, IMO nothing he did after those three Vandenberg albums was very good. I didn't like the stuff he did with Whitesnake at all and the Manic Eden album was very mediocre. Still disappointed that Whitesnake did not do a version of "Burning Heart," as Coverdale had mentioned it in several interviews that he wanted to record it. A version of "Burning Heart" with Coverdale's voice...wow!

I agree Joseph-Adrian was brilliant but his best moments were with Vandenberg. I did like his work with Whitesnake at times-but too much of it was obnoxious noodling aside from the acoustic stuff he did with Coverdale which was great.

I thought I had read Whitesnake did do a version of "Burning Heart" which never got released or finished. Maybe I'm wrong. "Burning Heart" was all over MTV and was a Top 40 singles in 1983. Looked like Vandenberg would be a big deal but either Atco Records screwed it up, or the band were just too sophisticated for US audiences.
