Rock Candy, one of my fave labels has released their August titles and immediately pre-ordered Streets "Crimes in Mind".
One of my fave albums released in 1985.

Product Description
Special Deluxe Collector's Edition / Fully remastered sound shaped from 24 BIT digital technology / Features Steve Walsh (Kansas), Mike Slamer (City Boy) & Billy Greer (Kansas) / Classic AOR Produced by Neil Kernon (Kansas, Michael Bolton, Autograph) / 12 page full colour booklet 3,500 word essay, enhanced artwork and band involvement. THE EARLY 80s saw a tidal wave of melodic hard rock bands surge out of North America. Many would bathe in the sweet spotlight of success whilst many more would slip beneath the water, unheralded and underappreciated. Streets, however, found themselves in the unique position of having the eyes and ears of the music world focussed on their debut album but ultimately failing to achieve the sort of mega success expected of them and their music. Formed in 1983 by former Kansas vocalist Steve Walsh, who decided to take more control of his musical destiny, and was joined by bassist Billy Greer and drummer Tim Gehrt. The final piece of the puzzle was completed by super talented guitarist Mike Slamer, a British born former member of City Boy who had relocated to the US in order to seek out new musical opportunities. Musically it was a match made in heaven. Produced by another ex-pat Englishman, Neil Kernon (Michael Bolton, Autograph, Kansas) and loaded with punchy, up-tempo yet deliciously memorable tracks such as If Love Should Go , One Way Street and So Far Away . The album is a first class example of melodic hard rock, displaying all the bells and whistles you could possibly wish for. There's also a refreshing progressive influence, mainly due to the extraordinary musical talent involved and, of course, Steve Walsh's phenomenal vocal agility.

1. If Love Should Go
2. Move On
3. One Way Street
4. Lonely Woman's Cry
5. Everything Is Changing
6. Cold Hearted Woman
7. So Far Away
8. Blue Town
9. Fire

Crimes In Mind

Product Description
Special Deluxe Collector's Edition / Fully remastered sound shaped from 24 BIT digital technology / Features Steve Walsh (Kansas), Mike Slamer (City Boy) & Billy Greer (Kansas) / Classic AOR Produced by Beau Hill (Winger, Ratt, Warrant) / 12 page full colour booklet 3,500 word essay, enhanced artwork and band involvement. RIGHTFULLY DESCRIBED as minor supergroup, Streets were one of the most promising bands to have formed during the early 80s, a huge boom period for melodic rock, providing an environment that supported a number of hugely successful acts like Nightranger, Foreigner and Survivor. Fronted by former Kansas vocalist Steve Walsh and featuring bassist Billy Greer, drummer Tim Gehrt and hugely talented British born guitarist Mike Slamer, formerly of City Boy, the band attracted a huge amount of interest from the media and fans alike. Based in Atlanta, Georgia they released their debut album to universal acclaim, if not sales, in 1983 and established a foundation from which to launch their sophomore record, 1985's infectious Crimes In Mind . Produced by man of the moment Beau Hill (Ratt, Warrant, Winger) and recorded in both their home town and New York City, the record takes up the mantle laid down on the debut, boasting ten tracks of perfectly formed melodic hard rock, with hooks and songs to propel them into the stratosphere. That the record failed to achieve expectations commercially is no fault of the band or the material. Crimes In Mind is one of the most compelling and exciting melodic rock albums of the era, allowing every member to excel and impress, not least of all Steve Walsh's immaculately executed lead vocals.

1. Don't Look Back
2. The Nightmare Begins
3. Broken Glass
4. Hit 'N' Run
5. Crimes In Mind
6. I Can't Wait
7. Gun Runner
8. Desiree
9. Rat Race
10. Turn My Head

I've never have (to my knowledge) heard anything by Streets. I'm a huge Kansas fan. I'm sure this and their first disc don't mimic Kansas. My question..... are the two discs good?

Oh yeah Mark, especially the one I listed. Now it's not Kansas, this is 80's rock now with production by Beau Hill (Ratt, Warrant, Winger) so it's going to have the 80's gloss, BUT the song writing and execution is killer. I had this on cassette and damm wore it out. Steve Walsh is so energized, you can hear how really he's into this group thru his vocals. I give this album 4 1/2 stars.

Isn't Rock Candy also doing the first album in this series along with this one? I might be wrong.

I didn't care for Streets but Walsh is a great singer and I love Kansas. This was just too AOR for me.

Here's what I remember about Streets:

"If Love Should Go" was a minor hit in 1983 and I liked it. I remember they were on the King Biscuit Flour Hour-can't remember if they played any Kansas songs.

Someone in the band was in City Boy (don't remember who-the guitarist maybe?).

Their debut album was produced by Neil Kernon who also produced the Kansas album Drastic Measures that same year!

And I remember the MTV video for "Everything Is Changing" and I swear Luis Guzman was in that video or someone who looked like him-it's been a while.

That's what I remember!

Hey IP, yeah they are doing the first as well but the second is killer! My fave anyway.

Your right, the guitarists from "City Boy" Mike Slamer is lead here and he kicks. Also Billy Greer of Kansas is on bass.

Rock Candy's releases for August can bankrupt me. Especially the :Blackfoot" special they are running. :sigh:

I know you feel like I do, "Rock Candy" is such a cool label. They already notified me they have mailed me my "Crimes..." last Friday.
