The final shows of the Rolling Stones' 50 & Counting tour have been released as “Hyde Park Live” exclusively via iTunes for a limited time.

The album will be available for just four weeks – from July 22 to August 19 – following the band’s two sold out concerts in London’s Hyde Park on July 6th and 13th.

The shows marked the Stones first appearance in Hyde Park in 44 years - since the group’s free concert on July 5, 1969; just two days after the death of founding member Brian Jones, that show marked the live debut of his replacement, Mick Taylor.

Both of the Stones’ Hyde Park shows were reportedly filmed and a DVD is expected to be released in the near future, as well.

Why not bundle it with the 1969 show? There is of DVD of the '69 show, albeit of dubious legality.

Get used to downloads. I love the Stones, but I don't imagine to be wowed by anything live now, let alone them doing what is mostly those same songs.

If I'm not doing downloads in 2013 it's obvious I'm, not getting used to them! The Stones were fantastic when I saw them last December and there were some surprises in the set as well as this show.

I do have a $10 free iTunes gift card my friend Laura gave me at Christmas so maybe I'd use it here rather than let it go to waste. How much is it? More than $10 I bet so I won't use it ha ha.

I don't mind this stuff being released as download-only, especially at reduced cost, but I'm really not especially interested in it right now--they've just really oversaturated the market with this live stuff to where this stuff just isn't particularly special--which (unfortunately) includes the recent spate of CD/DVD packages.

I understand that this is primarily my problem. Let's face it--once upon a time I was willing to invest time and money into acquiring the Japanese version of a particular Stones title solely to acquire a bonus live version of "Angie" or what-have-you (and yes, I once paid way too much money for the 1991 "Jumpin' Jack Flash" CD single), but they are not a band that is noted for radically reinterpreting their studio stuff in concert. The Stones discography over at http://www.timeisonourside.com indicates that there have now been ten officially released live versions of "Satisfaction", twelve versions of "Brown Sugar", and fourteen versions of "Jumpin' Jack Flash" (and I think this is from counting only audio releases, and not the stuff exclusive to video like the two Best Buy 4-disc sets.)

Maybe someday I'll go back on a Stones binge and snag a bunch of these titles, but the fact is that the big 45-disc singles collection of a couple of years ago--which I really enjoyed, remixes and all--is the sort of package that I'm truly interested in at this point. Again--I don't fault the Stones for making this stuff available on any platform, be it CD, DVD or download, but this deluge of material really has me rethinking my collecting focus.

Already saw this (this is from the July 6th show, as we got Lucky instead of Before They Make Me Run on the 13th) so I don't feel the urgent need to buy it again. Especially as a DVD Download. If it actually comes out on DVD, I may look at picking it up for the memories, and see if I can see myself in the crowd. :D

From a music perspective, I can't suggest this over previous live versions of their work, as with the exception of Midnight Rambler and Can't Always get... they are fairly faithful studio recreations. Midnight Rambler was great, but I didn't particularly like the choir they used on Can't Always get.

For Stones fans only, if there's any of those on the board

BTW, despite being "Mastered for Itunes" it's horribly brickwalled.

Supposedly, per a book I recently reviewed for Amazon, I-tunes was REFUSING brickwalled releases for the "Mastered For I-Tunes" program. As this is a dreadful DR6 (& it sounds really LOUD also), I'm coming to doubt that book's integrity.

Musically, this is surprisingly good. I've played 4 songs so far, & it's way beyond my expectations.

I've always been a download fan (I bought all of the shows the Stones released on Google last year and really loved a few of them), so I love that bands are making stuff available so quickly and for so much cheaper. The quick turnaround is part of the fun. I also agree that the performances here are surprisingly strong-- I especially liked hearing Emotional Rescue and Before They Make Me Run (which I think have never been on an official live Stones album before).

Question:
Since I have never purchased a download before-I have $10 credit on iTunes. Do they charge tax? Also, if I download it from my phone can I also get it onto my computer? I assume I can but this would be the first time I did this and to quite the Stones also "The Last Time". Ha ha.

At least I pay nothing.

Pete,

I think they do charge tax some places. If you have an iPhone connected to the same iTunes account as your computer, I know you can download on your phone and then download onto your computer from "the Cloud".

iTunes didn't charge me tax here in NY. $9.99 that's it.

The Rolling Stones' new release, “Hyde Park Live,” has hit No. 1 on iTunes in 11 countries.

The project, which captures the final shows of the band’s “50 & Counting” tour, has topped the iTunes charts in Austria, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

“Hyde Park Live” is available exclusively via iTunes for a limited time – for just four weeks – from July 22 to August 19.

The album features a compilation of tracks performed at the band’s two sold out concerts in London’s Hyde Park on July 6th and 13th.

The shows marked the Stones first appearance in Hyde Park in 44 years - since the group’s free concert on July 5, 1969; just two days after the death of founding member Brian Jones, that show marked the live debut of his replacement, Mick Taylor.

iTunes charges tax for downloads in North Carolina. Amazon.com does not. Yet.

Amazon started collecting sales tax in New Jersey on July 1. Amazon is building a large distribution warehouse adjacent to the NJ Turnpike and part of the agreement with the state for various incentives was they'd start collecting sales tax on purchases shipped to NJ addresses.
