Linda Ronstadt to write memoir ‘Heart Like a Wheel’

NEW YORK — Linda Ronstadt broke barriers for women as one of the top-selling artists of her generation, and she’s going to detail how she did it in a new memoir for Simon & Schuster.

The book publisher announced Thursday that it had acquired her autobiography, titled “Heart Like a Wheel,” after her Grammy-winning, multiplatinum album.

In a statement, Simon & Schuster said: “Few singers have been as wide-ranging or distinctive in their artistry.”

Ronstadt sold tens of millions of records starting in the 1970s with pop hits like “You’re No Good” and “When Will I Be Loved.” But she also segued into country, pop standards and mariachi music, among other genres.

She also had high-profile romances with California Gov. Jerry Brown and George Lucas.

The book is due in 2013.

if, and it's a huge if, she tells all about her life in the 60's and 70's it could be a very very interesting book.

I've always liked Ronstadt's singing. I've admired her ability and willingness to work in different styles of music. And, oh yeah, like most men of a certain age I had a huge crush on her back in the day. But if this is like most celebrity books I fear it will be a very watered-down version of her life. I hope I'm wrong.

This has been retitled "Simple Dreams: A Musical Memoir." and will be released Sept. 17.

Fans in the DC area should note that she is scheduled to appear at the National Book Festival on the Mall on Saturday, September 21, to talk about the book. She'll be there from 10:00 am - 10:45 am, then will be signing it from 11:30 am - 12:30 pm. I'll be working in the Georgia booth that day, but will definitely schedule a break to go hear her. Probably can't be away long enough to get an autographed copy, though.
