After his departure from Deep Purple in 1993, Ritchie Blackmore reformed Rainbow with a new line-up and went into the studio to record the acclaimed Stranger In Us All album. The band then took to the road for an extensive tour which included this 1995 live concert in Dusseldorf filmed for Germany's famous Rockpalast TV series. The set features several tracks from the Stranger In Us All album alongside classic Rainbow and Deep Purple tracks. The band are on blistering form and Ritchie Blackmore shows just why he is so revered as a guitarist. This previously unreleased show is a great addition to any Rainbow fan's collection.

Line-Up:
Ritchie Blackmore (guitar); Doogie White (vocals); Candice Night (vocals); Paul Morris (keyboards); Greg Smith (bass); Chuck Burgi (drums)

I could not copy and paste the cover art due to Amazon-if that can be done I'd appreciate it.

This is so very cool and surprising. This Rainbow show from 1995 was awesome as any who have seen the oft-bootlegged Rockpalast show know. This is also getting an official DVD release as well.

This link is from AmazonUK for the CD. The DVD has a US Amazon link so I'm sure both will come out here.

Oh, he was but they didn't call him ha ha! Seriously, this show was excellent and Doogie White was a damn good frontman and singer. Nice to see Chuck Burgi back in the band as well at this point.

I've had the DVD boot for years but I will buy this-the quality should be very good as the show was top-notch.

I thought it was weird that Blackmore brought the Rainbow name back for like, one album or something like that and then just went medieval...musically speaking.

Well, that album (Stranger In Us All) started as a solo album and he demanded a bunch of money from BMG since they wanted it to be Rainbow and he got the cash.

It's not a great album but pretty good and the tour was even better. The album does have some great songs and classic Rainbow sounds but I've always considered it as an afterthought to some degree.

As for Blackmore's Night...I'll leave the zithers, lutes and fairies to Ritchie and quietly cry when I think of it.

I was listening to Eddie Trunk one night and he had met Blackmore and asked him to come on his show to be interviewed.

Blackmore said ok, but on the condition that he would not talk about Deep Purple or Rainbow, that he just wanted to talk about his new music.

Eddie said, I do a show about hard rock and metal, what would the point be of having Ritchie Blackmore on and not talking about them? Trunk said if Blackmore changed his mind, he'd be happy to have him on. I don't blame Trunk for not agreeing to Blackmore's terms. Blackmore was a great guitar player in his day, but kind of a weird guy IMO.

I saw this tour at a club in New Jersey. It was a good show. I've had various boots of this lineup for years and they were fairly solid live. I'll grab this for sure.

Can't believe I missed that tour. I did see Rainbow in 1983 in Philly and I loved that show so much. Bent Out Of Shape is one of my favorite Rainbow albums.

Aldo Nova opened up and he was great too.

The other time I saw RAINBOW was when the SCORPIONS opened for them at MSG on the "Straight Between The Eyes" tour. They were great.

I was at the MSG show as well Byron...that was a great show. I don't know if I'll be getting this, I would rather have the 1980 Donnington Show on CD/DVD... :ohyes:

To be honest, so would I but...the Donnington show was not their best moment. Not sure if we will ever see that get released.

I can say a Rainbow singles box set is due in October and bigger Rainbow news is for next year.

I do suggest getting this show here though-it's really, really good.

I was looking forward to this but then............

I was really digging the video on this. But listen to the audio closely. Seems like there is some sort of strange female "ghost" vocal here. I found it most obvious from about 3:20-4:00 in the above clip of Spotlight Kid. If this persists throughout the DVD it would pretty much be unlistenable for me. Hopefully Eagle Rock just screwed something up when posting it on YouTube.

I thought Candace Night was part of the touring band back then, just before Blackmore's Night started up. Would that be the female "ghost" vocal?

I didn't notice her on stage, but that doesn't mean she wasn't an off-stage member. But whatever this vocal is, if it's her it doesn't sound like it was intentional. Listen to the solo sections, from 2:30 to 2:55, it doesn't sound appropriate for a singer to be adding vocals to that part of the song (and the vocals don't match the music either). Could be she was warming up and her voice bled into the mix? Whatever happened, it's annoying as hell and ruins it for me. No way I could purchase this if this shows up in a number of songs.

She was part of the band as a backup singer. If I remember they do show her. I don't recall the backing vocals being a problem but it's been a while since I watched it.

Rainbow used female backing singers on most of their tours in the 80s.

One thing I do recall is some sort of backing vox bleeding into the mix of "Spotlight Kid" and it's on every copy I've seen of this. It was annoying as hell, but I believe it was a glitch with Rockpalast. Again-I don't remember exactly but this clip is the same as what I have and it's there. I do not believe it to be that way during the show.
