Hell yeah! I've been waiting for this type of comp for a long time. Not my style at all, but no question I'll add this to my collection for the historical significance.

Now they just need to issue decent versions of the second and third Elf albums on CD. There are various versions of them out there, but every one has gotten dismal reviews for the quality.

If anyone is interested in previews or just interested in how different this stuff is from the Dio that became famous, you can hear a lot of this stuff here:

I got this disc and have given it a couple of listens. Overall I was happy with the purchase. The sound quality varies from track-to-track, the sound on some tracks is definitely sub-par while other tracks sound suprisingly good when considering their age. Still would have to classify it as a "for Dio completists only" release.

That's the only reason I'm getting it. This way, every era of Ronnie's career will be represented in my collection.

I'd also like to thank you Chris for starting this thread. I don't think I would have learned about this release if you hadn't posted about it.

Glad to post this, as it brings Ronnie's catalog full circle, more or less.

There's no official "compact disc" logo on the disc or packaging, so I think this may be a bootleg. Kind of a trip to hear the young Ronnie in this '50s pop guise.

I don't even know who would own the rights to the original records? I just assumed this comp was a public domain release, but if I'm not mistaken the newest material on this is from 1967 which makes those recordings too new to be thrown in the public domain. According to wiki the only track that was released on a label that still exists is Ooh-Poo-Pah-Doo which was on Atlantic, but that one was released in 1962 so that would be in the public domain now. The rest of the stuff was released on labels like Derby, Kapp, Parkway, etc...any of those still do business (I honestly don't know)? I very much doubt it Dio himself owned the rights to this stuff unless he went back and purchased them later (which I think unlikely due to the style of the material). I'd guess most would consider this to be a grey market type of release. Personally I'm just happy to have a "decent enough" CD copy of these songs (although the sound is very rough on a few of them).

Joseph's experience aside, I just can't imagine many Dio fans ever giving this a second listen...

Myself included. But I at least now have representation of all Ronnie's eras in my collection, so that's cool.
