very interesting, especially since it seems as though fleetwood mac treats just about anything pre-buckingham/nicks like it never existed.

Hoping for a US version to be announced. Either way, I'm in on this one. Great album.

Hoping for good sound. Awesome release if so. The UK price isn't bad at all.

It would be cheaper as of today's prices & exchange rate to order from Amazon.UK ($15.24 USD delivered)

Me too!!!!! Great album, but the CD version has poor sound quality. I hope there will finally be a true stereo version of "Oh Well" (studio, not live), but I'm not holding my breath.

I'd like to know more about this before purchase, but not likely........ The best current version I know of is a 2 cd set created by a fan.

I'm in, as long as it does NOT include the dreadful "Milton Schlitz" material by Jeremy Spencer

My US copy of this arrived today. Sounds really good to me. The mastering is on the loud side, but not excessively so, and far superior to the original CD in every other way. I'm liking the original British running order surprisingly well. Great album.

I have been chastised on the Hoffman site for saying this mastering is loud. Consensus is that it's not. In any case, it does sound really good.

J&R helpfully displayed this on their New Release wall, and priced it on sale @ $9.99.

I have personally confirmed that DR 10 rating.

Greg, DR 10 is 1 step below the conventional wisdom that the minimum acceptable level of compression is DR 11 so I am really surprised you were criticized. DR 10 would normally be an indicator of a cd being a bit on the loud side. That forum really is wacked, isn't it?

I plan to play it on my pc later today; not sure when I'll have time to play it on my main system

On my PC the first 2 tracks are not loud or bright (though I did play a pretty compressed Deep Purple remaster right before it, so that could impact my judgement!) ; in fact it doesn't really sound all that remastered & there's some distortion (a bad original recording??). Track 3 sounds a bit louder. I'll post my DR log as the one Joseph posted is from mp3 & mine is from lossless.

I have 2 other versions; I'm going to need to do a comparison on my main system to have a significant opinion.

Now there's the understatement of the year. I learn more about sound from your casual asides than I ever have from any of Hoffman's lectures.

I just did quicky sonic comparisons on my main system between all 3 versions of Oh Well, & the original USA & new versions of Coming Down Your Way. My main recommendation is buy this for the 5 extra tracks, not the remastering. The sonics are different but not revelatory; as the original US cd wasn't all that bad. Though it's definitely different sounding than the USA original. In general, a little louder & brighter & a bit more definition. The USA was quite good for the time period; this one could be looked at as being slightly subpar for 2013 (if one ignores the fact it isn't brickwalled), or if one takes into account that 80 % or so of "remasters" seem to be brickwalled in 2013 & this one isn't, you could say it's superb for 2013!

Briefly what I heard:

Oh Well: I agree with Greg, the new version is louder, but not painfully so. More depth, & the effects on PG's voice are much more apparent than on the other 2 versions; at first I thought it was a remix, but I no longer believe that. The US is a little less fatiguing, but is also a bit flat sounding (lack of depth). I have no idea what the source(s) were for the 15 track fan edition, but it also sounds slightly different than the USA. Can't easily explain how; also not sure which of those 2 I prefer. It could very well just be the difference between multiple rips & burns vs. factory pressed I'm hearing there. I no longer choose to listen that closely most of the time, but I remember years ago in listening tests clearly hearing consistent slight differences between ripped & burned discs (.wav that were never turned into .flac) vs factory pressed. I ASSUME the slight differences (usually a SLIGHT dullness & flattening of the sound stage) were caused by jitter &/or disc quality. I heard this slight flattening/dulling on both pc burns & on stand alone digital burns.

Coming Down Your Way: I actually heard the opposite volume wise; the USA was subjectively a SLIGHT AMOUNT louder. The perceived volume difference was much greater on Oh Well. I slightly preferred the new version (depth, definition & lack of tape hiss), though again the difference isn't huge for me. The distortion I heard on my pc was oddly absent on my main system (though I played the entire cd on the pc & only parts of 2 tracks on the big system).

I think most non-audiophile-types would be more than happy with a DR10 remaster. Based on my experience with cross-referencing what my ears tell me versus a DR rating, 9's and above tend to be perfectly fine with me. I'd be a very happy man if 90% of the CDs I bought were a DR10 or better.

Maybe the folks at the Hoffman board have been listening to the audio disasters known as the new Black Sabbath CD and the new Queensryche CD for the last month. After listening to those two nightmares a DR10 CD would be just like hearing The Dark Side of the Moon for the first time back in '73.

Until this year, I had never seen a DR4 or 5; in fact I THINK i saw my first 6 this year also. I don't remember what the 4 was anymore, but I ran into one.

A couple years back, I bought a Gary Moore live cd (I think it was Live at Monsters Of Rock) that was so brickwalled, the only way I could listen to it without cringing was to rip it, digitally re-eq the midrange & burn it! It still didn't sound great, but at least it stopped making my teeth hurt! Sad thing was, the music was great, but the compression ruined it.

I can also usually listen to a 9 or a 10; but a a general rule I prefer higher.

Metallica's Death Magnetic is a DR3 and despite some recent abominations that Metallica disc still stands out as the worst sounding CD in my collection. And that was released in 2008, so Metallica set a mark that nobody has been able to top in the last 5 years which is amazing as the loudness war seems to continously ramp up.

We're using some compression on our album, but not very much. Just some on the drums.

When it's done (should be soon), I will be most curious to hear what Geff thinks of the music and the sonics!

I know some of it is genius-I wrote a lot of it ha ha.
