http://www.quadraphonicquad.com/forums/ ... in-OctoberI have just been told it is okay to tell you all about this at long last - so here goes. Featuring brand-new stereo & 5.1 mixes by Steven Wilson as well as some additional bonus material and the original stereo mix in glorious high resolution, "Close to the Edge" will be released in October this year. I cannot say too much more at this point in time, but will update this thread as & when I am able to do so. This has been a very long time in the making, but well worth the wait - the new mixes sound absolutely glorious!

I think this calls for another years of Yes touring Close to the Edge in sequence!
Seriously, thanks for this news! I'd rather have the Wilson version than the gold disc I've been eyeing.

Linda...such a heretic you are! Don't let Hoffman catch you saying that!

These CD re-issues cover different markets. Some music fans hate re-mixes, some hate 5.1 mixes, some prefer only the original mixes. These 2 issues will please all buyers. I personally love 5.1 music when done right.

I'm irritated. I bought the AF. Yes, I agree with Linda, the Wilson (even in 2.0) will likely be superior to the Hoffman.

I salivate at hearing the powerful Rick Wakeman organ section with the "I get up, I get down" chorus in surround.

I am surprised Marshall at AF didn't have a license limitation that states they have xx # of months without competition like this. Either case, I will get this for a Steve Wilson 5.1 mix alone.
As for it being superior stereo mix, that remains to be seen (or heard in this case). Some his 2.0 mixes can be challenged (a la "Tarkus"). Of course its listener discretion.

Tarkus master tapes were not in great shape, Steve Wilson did a great job to get them sounding as good as they did.

There was rumor that Hoffman didn't have he original stereo master to work with. Does Wilson have it? Has it been found?

I need to save my money (Money: what's that??). Suspect I'll want the Red (hi res live1974 !!!!!!!) & the CTTE. Would be nice if they would offer a full value exchange on the Red 2 disc & AF Yes as a good will gesture.

I salivate in hoping it's done right in 2.0 96/24. The Hoffman wasn't at all bad, but I have never heard this album with my ears quite the way I envision it in my mind. It's also possible it wasn't as well recordedas i'd like to thin, but Wilson seems to work wonders with that issue.
