Cool! As I've been assembling the Hendrix catalog at quite reasonable prices in the past 2-3 years, I've been wondering if this would ever come back into print.

I didn't even know that this was out of print. It's a good one though. No mention of the obligatory 1 track on the rerelease that wasn't on the original though.

This is the best of the JH rarities sets.

sony has to do something to offset experience/hendrix, they can't let experience/hendrix make ALL the money.

Bastards--it's almost as though the only reason that Sony made a deal to manufacture, market, and distribute the music of Jimi Hendrix is to make money. It makes me sick.

Yeah, they should give it away. God knows Jimi doesn't need the money.

but janie (president and CEO of experience hendrix) and her dad seem to need it.....badly. i am surprised she is even letting this get re-released......i would expect her to try to stop it and then re-release it on her label.

Al Hendrix (Jimi's dad) is deceased. I met him twice, he seemed like a very nice man. Even complimented me one night when he heard me playing Little Wing in a bar (that MADE my night!!!!!)

Excellent box. Its initial release coincided with a Chicago-Memphis pilgrimage and was the soundtrack for the trip. Not to be a dick, but I hope they give the original release a distinction, like the re-release is not covered in the purple felt.

One of the best box sets ever released (imo) , I was listening to it this past weekend . If they want to re-release stuff they should re-release the "Stages" box set . I think it was left behind when I moved about 18 years ago .

Weird to see an identical "new release" priced higher in 2013 then it was 13 years ago; I'm pretty sure I paid $35 for mine at BB. With I could sell cd's for more than I did 13 years ago!

That's a great deal if this box is as good as everybody says it is.

I guess, although as Geff referenced above this was often available for well under $40 in its previous incarnation.

As for the Box; it will be the same 56 songs as on the original 2000 release, but will include 4 addition tracks, pushing the collection up to 60 songs in total. New additions include:

1. Peace In Mississippi [b-side of the "Valleys Of Neptune" single] 2. Burning Of The Midnight Lamp [Live On Dee Time 8/24/67 recording] 3. Stars That Play with Laughing Sam's Dice [Original UK single mix] 4. Like A Rolling Stone - Winterland [unreleased]

The box configuration will be the same ('shoebox' style) as the original release but will not be the crushed velvet material this time, but instead will use similar material that the international digipak used.

There is no vinyl planned at this stage.

LOL, guess all the Hendrix collectors (myself included) just got nerfed -- how's the price looking now for an additional four songs? -- and we get "Peace In Mississippi" which was already released on CD instead of the vinyl-only "Power Of Soul" from the recent "Somewhere" 7-inch single.
