Copied from my WANderground entry:

I'm going to treat this one like a holiday.
After work (7am), go home for a nap.
Around 1pm I'll start the pilgramage to the 3 main stores in my area
just to see how/if they are observing, and to grab any freebies they'll allow.
I'll also be looking for Green Hornet, Lone Ranger, Shadow, etc. type TBS if the price is right.
I'm in an old school mood and that should fill the bill.
I'm especially interested in the Green Hornet
and would appreciate any seek/avoid advice anyone has to offer.

Anybody else doing anything FCBD today?

Happy hunting! Wish I could get away today to visit someplace where they still sell comics.

Google Play Store had a bunch of free Archie comics today. I picked up all of them. A couple were 150 page digests. I read the new Life With Archie book, which deals with imaginary futures where Archie marries either Veronica or Betty, depending on the story. Norm Breyfogle does the art and Paul Kupperberg writes. I liked it and it made me want to read more, so I guess they did the job.

I went to a great store in Dearborn, MI: Green Brain Comics. I picked up the sampler issues from DC (featuring a comic adaption of the upcoming(?) Beware the Batman and Teen Titans Go, A Smurfs book (edited by Jim Salicrup, remembering him from Marvel Age), a very interesting book from Archaia features samples of very cool looking books called Mouse Guard and Rust, neither of which I've ever heard, three more books that I think the store stuck into every bag, one of which being Whiteout by Rucka and Lieber, the others being Savage Dragon, and Atomic Robo. Plus, I bought two copies (different covers) of Sesame Street #1, because my girls are still in early single digits. The whole point was to get books for them anyway. :)

I love my store, and it was a madhouse today. It has grown out of control the last three years. The line was literally around the block. At the time we got there, the line had gone down to a fraction of what it was (just out the door and down the sidewalk a ways). We waited about an hour to get inside.

Wow. Can't imagine waiting an hour to get in the typical LCS. :)

I signed 23 Amala's Blades and two posters in West Lafayette. Blue Moon Comics has changed ownership twice since my college days but their new location is very nice.

Matt and I will have to check it out. There is a really good one in Allen Park right down the street from the dollar theater, too. Tons of cool toys, figures, games, comics, etc. Last time we went we were probably there for an hour scoping it out.

You should! It's actually the second genesis of a shop I grew up on: Comics Plus. The first few times I went into Green Brain I told them about how I remember them from the Comics Plus days, having lived out of the area for so long. I probably annoyed them with that story, so I've since stopped telling it. And, I've heard about that dollar theater. I have been meaning to go and check that out.

well, you can't beat movies for a dollar...it is a small theater, though, so they fill up quick. I'd suggest avoiding weekends and nights - peak times. Unless you don't mind crowds, I suppose.

Congratulations on your signing, Steve!

Yeah, my LCS had a line around the door and were letting people in nightclub style -- when someone leaves, then someone can come in. They were at maximum capacity. My retailer sent out an email saying that they got around 6,000 people total in that day.

But I'm not waiting in line for that bullshit. I drove over to some other store with no lines and bought Invincible Vol. 17 and Morrison's Action Comics TPB.
