Today ZZ Top, that little ol' band from right damned here, has announced a forthcoming 10-disc box set, comprising all of their albums from 1970 to 1990, starting with 1971's "ZZ Tops' First Album" and ending with 1990's "Recycler."

The set, which will sell for $59.98, is scheduled to hit stores June 10 while the band is in the midst of a European tour.

The disc reissues will be lovingly packaged in sleeves that revisit the LP editions, and the set also will include the original mixes for the band's debut, "Rio Grande Mud" and "Tejas," three albums that set the tone of ZZ music for years to come.

The trio is especially excited about those three albums being heard the way they originally intended -- the original mixes have never been available on compact disc. When they were reissued on disc in the '80s, the mixes were different, to the disappointment of fans.

Sounds great! And $59.98 suggested retail probably means this will go for around 50 bucks...

A little more info and a photo (sounds very much like the BOC and Cheap Trick, etc. Columbia boxes) :

A new box set collecting all of the studio albums ZZ Top released during its two decades of existence will be released on June 10. ZZ Top: The Complete Studio Albums (1970-1990) features the group’s first 10 studio efforts and boats a budget-friendly list price of $59.99.

Included in the package are the Texas trio’s most successful releases, 1983′s Eliminator and 1985′s Afterburner, which have sold 10 million and 5 million copies, respectively. Each disc in the collection comes housed in a wallet sleeve that replicates the original LP’s artwork. In addition, the box set includes, for the first time on CD, original mixes for three of the group’s albums: ZZ Top’s First Album, Rio Grande Mud and Tejas.

“We’re gratified that the albums from the first 20 years of the band are going to be made available in this set,” Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill and Frank Beard say in a joint statement. “We’re especially delighted to note the restoration of ZZ Top’s First Album, Rio Grande Mud and Tejas has been incorporated; it’s good to have been made whole again on a certain level.”

Meanwhile, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers are preparing to launch a spring U.S. tour that kicks off Thursday in Newkirk, Oklahoma. Visit ZZTop.com to check out the band’s full tour itinerary.

Here are all of the albums featured in ZZ Top: The Complete Studio Albums (1970-1990):

ZZ Top’s First Album (1971)
Rio Grande Mud (1972)
Tres Hombres (1973)
Fandango! (1975)
Tejas (1976)
Degüello (1979)
El Loco (1981)
Eliminator (1983)
Afterburner (1985)
Recycler (1990)

The Joni Mitchell set was nicely packaged, but the Madonna box was done on the cheap and I felt like I wasted my money. Hope this one is done right.

So can we expect that all of the processing done on the Six Pack release will be removed from these? If so, I'll likely jump, even if it means giving up on the deluxe edition of "Eliminator".

Correct. I assume the albums already remastered (Tres Hombres, Fandango! and Eliminator) will have the same mastering but the bonus cuts will be, ahem-eliminated! (They were useless anyway).

Unless it says so in the article and I missed it, I wouldn't necessarily expect the bonus tracks to be eliminated. I just picked up the ELO box, and the albums have bonus tracks.

I love this series!

Different label-I'd be surprised especially as Eliminator was 2 discs, but who knows?

Thanks Pete. I didn't realize there was more than one label doing this. I hope it is becoming a trend in the industry!

Bill, there's only one major label left after Sony and Warner. You don't have to hope for a whole trend. :)

In the Madonna box, the first 3 albums had the bonus tracks from the remasters, so there's some precedent.

Buy this box, buy the other box, buy the old "6-pack", buy the previous CDs, and buy all the other comps.

Don't forget to remind him to buy the Japanese mini-sleeves and the Hungarian maxi-sleeves.

I am in on this and the Allman Bros - Bros & Sis. Now only if the Kinks stuff starts up again.

Me too! I was contemplating getting Eliminator and Afterburner, but for this price, I might as well go for it all!

If I was wealthy, I'd like to get the 192/24 HD Tracks releases of Tres Hombres & Tejas.
