i just listened to "west" for the first time, and i am about to hit play again.

i can't think of enough superlatives for this.

the playing, the writing, the singing, everything about it....brilliant!

I agree. I assume you bought it at Best Buy? I did. Amazingly enough.....no difficulties. Fortunately the bonus disc was included INSIDE the original cd package

I had pre-ordered the thing from Amazon, so I'm without the bonus disc, how necessary is it? I love the album so far, 2nd listen was better than the first.

In my opinion, the Best Buy bonus disc is pretty good, considering that I wasn't thrilled with the choices of bonus songs being demos instead of unreleased "new" songs. They do make me want to hear the other bonus disc with the other demos.

Plus I'm still curious about the Japanese import advertising one bonus song.

Other bonus disc? Other demos? This is surely out of control. How many of these are there? And what songs are on which?

It was discussed in the Announcements section going back a week or so. The other disc is being given out at your local independent music stores. It is called West:Exclusive Demo Recordings. It has "Unsuffer Me" and "Everything Has Changed". It comes in a cardboard slip cover with a photo of horses running through a stream. The back has a photo of the West cover. It is a "promo" only disc. Most of the stores will give you one if they know you. If not you are supossed to buy West to receive a copy. I think they sound great. I will be picking up the BB version today, to get the other disc.

I have the Indie copy, but haven't opened it yet. I stopped in to pick something else up and the owner gave it to me. I would be happy to burn a few copies.

I would be appreciative to receive a burned copy, plus share a burned copy of the Best Buy version.

I hate to be a wet blanket but am I the only one that thinks that all of the songs sound the same. I have been a fan for awhile but after the live album and this one, I am about ready to give up.

And true believers, we have yet another bonus track for you!

The iTunes version of West includes an "alternate version" of "Words", available only with purchase ($9.99) of the entire album. I haven't heard any of the other bonus tracks yet, but I'm wondering if this is also actually a demo... the instrumentation is certainly more subdued than that of the album version.

I'm just wondering if in maybe 2 years or so there will be a deluxe edition of West with the second disc being all the demos. She produced the demos and they sound great, so disc one will be the Wilner version and disc 2 the Williams version. Wouldn't surprise me at all

Renny,

Got to agree with you. What an excellent album!

I think some of her albums take a few listens to sink in (not car wheels, that one jumed out right away, but world without tears really grew on me over time) West definately has a new sound for her, reminds me of Chris Isaac. I do think the album has a personality and a story to tell.

I couldn't agree more!. To me, West is like an updated, extension of Essence. Which also took a while for me to grow into. Car Wheels and Tears are my favorites and never get tired. I do wish there were more up tempo songs on this and if history is in sync then the next one should kick. But so far, this is the best, hands down, record of 2007. And it is available on vinyl as well. Yee ha!

I'm jumping on the wet blanket bandwagon with Stephen. I just got this yesterday, and I don't hear anything special. In fact, it sounds like the weakest effort of her career to me. Maybe it will grow on me.

Incidentally, I noticed this week that West is available in both jewel case and digipak...

my 'west' is a jewel case, it is a double case because of the bonus disc.

were the non-best buy versions digpacks?

Don't know about other stores, but I saw a digipak version at Target earlier this week. I still need to get to one of my indies to track down the other bonus disc.

It's very good and most indies are packaging it together with the West CD and it is a digi at their stores. The only jewel case I have seen is the one from BB
