I finally got around to starting to read this, quite certain that I would like it. It's by my favorite manga creative team (that's #1), and it's about producing a manga (which would be my most fascinating subject -- I feel the same way about American comics). On top of that, I feel a real mental connection to this writer -- he also wrote Death Note, one of my other favorites.

I confess that I've read the whole series. It is online for free here: http://www.mangareader.net/219/bakuman.html

I want to read this badly. Wonder if it's on an app?

It's on the Viz Manga app, the whole setup of which I think is superior to Comixology.

$4.95. Half the price of print. http://www.vizmanga.com/home/
They seem to get it.

Bakuman gives a fascinating look at the manga business from the point of view of the artists. It is quite inspiring, too - while reading that I kept trying to come up with my own manga-style ideas. And I really enjoyed the heated competition between the protagonists and their chief rival. The romance/soap opera elements were a little too high school for me, but I guess that would be the target audience for the book.

I may try this out. I have yet to read a Manga that grabbed me - maybe this will do it. I want to like this stuff, but just....well, I just don't. :)

I know what you mean. I've found some that I did like, but they tend to be few and far between. More commonly I see something that looks really interesting, and then it turns out that there's something about it that breaks the deal for me. It's just as well, I guess, given my limited funds. I go more for anime than for manga.

So far, I've only really "hit" three times with manga.

I've enjoyed a bunch of manga. My top two are Sanctuary (a great political/organized crime epic) and Hajime No Ippo (a bullied schoolboy becomes a championship level boxer). Both are online for free at http://www.mangareader.net/alphabetical. BTW, there's a manga reader app for iPad that will allow you to read anything from this and a few similar sites on your tablet.

IIRC you also liked "Hikaru no go." What's the third one?

I have watched the anime. I hear the manga is very similar, but I don't think it's on Comixology, so it's difficult for me to read it.

This is on Comixology and I have read the first volume. It's brilliant.
