Time to go bubblegum this week.
I love this song.....but, in my opinion, there are quite a few mind-numbing versions starting with the turn of the 80s.....(which charted) Feel free to disagree.

Much as I wanted to vote for the Rubinoos, I picked the Screeching Weasels by a hair. I also love the Birthday Massacre version. I didn't know the Spinto Band did a cover of this song: I like their albums & will have to track this down.

Kill the Musicians is a fine collection though I prefer their main releases like Bark Like a Dog, Wiggle and My Brain Hurts. Almost any of their early-to-mid '90s albums are great.

Screeching Weasel's cover of "I Can See Clearly Now" was a staple of my college radio station in '92. I love their album My Brain Hurts - their originals are as snappy as anything they cover.

I love most versions of this song. I'm a huge Tommy James fan and t's just a real good song. I had a hard time picking one, but I went with Lene Lovich because I first heard it right around the time that Tiffany's version was super-popular. At the time, I was an alterna-snobby middle/high schooler and Lene's version was like an antidote to Tiffany's. But I like Tiffany's version now too. Her 80s mallrat voice/persona goes well with the lyrics.

I'll check them out on you guys' recommendations but I can't say I liked their version of the song much.

I voted for Tommy James, but have always been kinda charmed by this low-fi, heavily Brit-accented version from the Pipettes that's been around on YouTube for a few years...
