Hello All,

Brand new to the board.

Does anyone have any info on the remasters of Kansas "Two For The Show" and "Monolith"? I thought they were supposed to come out in 2006.

Thanks,

Mark :o

(Added by Linda from information provided by stevef, Mark Vincent-Smith and Starz Rider ~ Sony Legacy will be issuing a 2-CD expanded remaster of Two For The Show on July 1, 2008.)

“Carry On Wayward Son” by Kansas, their 1976 RIAA gold Top 10 singles chart debut, received the ultimate accolade in today’s competitive PlayStation universe when it was inducted into the track list of 2006’s enormously popular Guitar Hero II, which has sold more than 3 million copies to date. The song’s magnetism has delivered a new generation of fans for Kansas – who have sold more than 20 million albums in the U.S. during their career, continue to tour around the world, and maintain a colorful and vastly informative website at http://www.kansasband.com.

“Carry On Wayward Son” now takes its place as one of the band’s signature tracks on [title]TWO FOR THE SHOW: 30th ANNIVERSARY EDITION[/title], which restores the full-length original two-LP concert album of 1978 for the first time in the digital era. The new double-CD edition is expanded with a second disc including 10 previously unreleased live tracks from the same 1977-78 tour grid that provided the tracks for the original live album.

Thirty years later, TWO FOR THE SHOW: 30th ANNIVERSARY EDITION will arrive in stores July 1st on Kirshner/Epic/Legacy, a division of SONY BMG MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT.

DISC 1:
1. Song For America
2. Point of No Return

Wow, I hope that's true, but then again, the latest Blue Oyster Cult remasters were to come out and didn't. Legacy can kiss my ass-they do a great job with what they do, but they rarely follow up with catalogues-like Santana, Psychedelic Furs, Heart, BOC, Kansas, etc.
Please post if you find any info on the Kansas remasters!

Yeah, Legacy would rather do deluxe editions of early Santana than carry on with the rest of the catalog.

It may be a sad fact that Legacy looked at the sales for the previous Kansas reissues and decided it wasn't worth updating the rest of the catalog. It sucks, but it happens. Probably 90 out of 100 consumers who'd consider buying a Kansas CD these days are only looking a greatest hits package--and Kansas has at least 4 of those on the market.

We've been bemoaning Legacy's unwillingness to finish catalog updates for years here at ICE. Feel free to commiserate!

Legacy was doing a great job on the Kansas catalog. I was looking forward to the above CD's being remastered with bonus material. These were the last 2 CD's remaining from the early catalog. You're right...most people are getting the GH packages instead.

Sad but true...

You can add Cheap Trick to that list as well. Even though they finally got around to "Dream Police" and "All Shook Up" it took them years to do them after the initial remasters...

Anyone hear of Two For The Show and Monolith being remastered yet...these would be the last 2 albums to get remastered in the Kansas catalog.

Thanks,

Mark

Wish I knew man-I've been waiting for these forever. Plus, they were supposed to do Audiovisions, Vinyl Confessions and Drastic Measures as well-all the Kirshner/CBS albums.
That ain't gonna happen now I guess! Damn fools!

Audiovisions, Vinyl and Drastic all were remastered back in '99 when they also remastered the first Best Of disc and added a couple of bonus tracks. Pick them up they sound great.

I also picked up the newer version of the King Biscuit Live disc. It was rereleased in '03 with new artwork and supposedly remastered sound. The set doesn't say that but I remember reading it somewhere. I have both so one day I will do an AB to see. So as of now, Monolith and Live are the only ones not done.

Actually, I think these were done in 1996 and there was some debate as to whether they were remastered at all. I know Vinyl Confessions is out of print. Can you tell me if these were actually remastered and did they have new liner notes, faithful cover art, clear jewel cases, etc.? I never actually thought these were remastered when I used to see them-maybe I was wrong but I don't remember any packaging stating they were.
Thanks!

I believe those 1996 reissues were the first time those 3 titles had been available on CD, at least in the US. Sadly, I doubt they'll ever get another go-around as long as Sony owns the catalog.

Well you may be right about coming out in '96. I thought they came out later. And YES they are definitly remastered. They came in jewel cases and the booklets are the original artwork. They were all on the Legacy/Epic Assoc label. There is a sticker on the cover that says *digitally remastered from original tapes* original art.
The Ultimate Kansas 2cd set that came out in 2002 has all tracks remastered so you can get some of the ones off of Monolith and Live with good sound.

Alright-I just might look into getting these. Thanks, man!

Like Jimbo stated above, as long as Sony owns them don't look for them anytime soon. Sony's notorious for starting to remaster an artists catalog, then they just stop. They never finished Heart, or Cheap Trick...

You would think that only 2 remain and they would just finish the job.

They may be "OOP" technically, but I see them at all the stores I shop, both big box and independent. If they are OOP then there is a hell of a lot of leftovers out there. For those who don't have good store access, PM me and I can put you in touch with some very good indies that do mail order.

Rich

PS the Works in Progress cd is priced as a single disc at BB and it comes with a DVD; if you are interested. Of course as completists we all want them but do we actually watch them?; I usually don't. Going back four years I have close to 60 DVD's that came with a CD set and maybe watched 1-2. Sad

Works In Progress is just a cheapo-release to squeeze some cash from the worst era of the band. I'm a big fan but I feel that the group are a weak imitation of what they once were. Rich Williams just cannnot cut it alone as a guitar player.
But, up to the Steve Morse years, I loved this band.
I know it's a fantasy to think MCA/Universal would ever remaster Power or In The Spirit Of Things, but it would be nice!

I'll tell you what was fun about these guys... I got to see them at a small club do a warm-up gig prior to kicking off the Power tour. They started playing "Dust in the Wind" like normal with the two guitarists out front playing the intro and then suddenly stopped with Steve Walsh jumpping up saying they wanted to update the song. They then started making it a rap/rock song with a rap back beat. It was fantastic and hilarious at the same time. The crowd went wild.
Give Somewhere to Elsewhere another listen. With all the original members back, they did a good job of bring back the old style. Of course now Robby has left again and Kerry was only on the CD and doesn't tour with them, so we might be back to the Freaks era. Oh well.

John Mellencamp did something similar a few years ago by inserting a breakdown in the middle of "Jack and Diane"... I thought it was great fun.

Another that did it was Don Henley on VH1 Storytellers" a few years ago. He turned "Life in the fast Lane" into a rap song, and the results were hilarious!

Kansas reissues - any info yet? It's been a few years since the last Kansas upgrades - they got as far as Point of No Return. Anyone know/hear of any further reissues - Two for the Show, Monolith etc.?
