Stone Temple Pilots plotting extensive tour

By Mitchell Peters
Tue Apr 1, 5:45 AM ET

LOS ANGELES (Billboard) - The recently reunited Stone Temple Pilots will next week announce plans for a summer tour of more than 50 amphitheaters, sources said.

The L.A. rock group has already confirmed a handful of festival dates, beginning with the Rock on the Range festival in Columbus, Ohio, on May 17-18.

Further details about STP's tour will be announced during an April 7 news conference at the Harry Houdini Estate in Los Angeles. It is still unclear whether the band will record new material.

Rock on the Range will be Stone Temple Pilots' first show since 2002, when it played 13 concerts to promote its final album, 2001's "Shangri-La Dee Da."

Singer Scott Weiland went on to co-found Velvet Revolver, which is about to conclude a European tour in support of its second album. But he and drummer Matt Sorum are engaged in a public feud, casting doubt on the outfit's future.

Stone Temple Pilots confirm reunion tour

Stone Temple Pilots have confirmed they will reunite this summer, and will play a massive 65 dates around North America.

The news comes in the wake of Scott Weiland’s acrimonious split with Velvet Revolver, involving mud-slinging between Weiland and the other members of the band via official statements.

The tour will be STP’s first in almost eight years and will kick off May 17 at the Rock on the Range Festival in Columbus, OH.

They will also make their first national live appearance on the The Late Show With Jimmy Kimmel on May 1.

Meanwhile, the band will launch a new website on April 7 via which members will have access to presale tickets for the upcoming tour.

Yay! I liked Velvet Revolver, but STP were much better IMO. I'll go see 'em for sure.

Stone Temple Pilots make triumphant comeback

Image

The newly reunited Stone Temple Pilots played an intimate gig filled with their greatest hits at the Harry Houdini Estate in Los Angeles tonight (April 7).

Original members Scott Weiland, guitarist Dean DeLeo, bassist Robert DeLeo and drummer Eric Kretz performed for a largely industry crowd to launch the 65-city tour they announced last week.

Looking dapper in a dark three-piece suit and tie, Weiland quipped, "None of us will wax poetically, we'll just bash each other with guitars and mic stands."

The band, who originally formed in 1992, kicked off their set with 'Big Empty' and segued into the classic 'Plush', one of their biggest hits.

Earlier in the evening, contortionists kept the crowd entertained underneath a colourful tent on the Houdini Estate. Weiland explained that the band chose to hold the event there because they had come to the secluded Hollywood Hills mansion in the early 1990s with director Gus Van Sant to film a video and fell in love with the place.

"We're back together and we're going on tour this summer," Weiland said before announcing that Stone Temple Pilots are set to play a date at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on June 24.

The band left the stage after just six songs, and the enthusiastic crowd chanted "STP" until they re-emerged. "It's just a hand job tonight," Weiland quipped before giving the crowd one final song, 'Trippin On A Hole In A Paper Heart'.

Stone Temple Pilots played:

'Big Empty'
'Plush'
'Vasoline'
'Lady Picture Show'
'Big Bang Baby'
'Interstate Love Song'
'Trippin' On A Hole In A Paper Heart'

Given Weiland's history, I'd say see 'em while you can.

Scott Weiland Is Going to Jail
Posted Apr 28th 2008 4:58PM by TMZ Staff

Rock star Scott Weiland has just been sentenced to 192 hours in county jail for his November DUI arrest. This is Weiland's second DUI offense. He has until May 28 to serve the sentence.

Scott, who was not present in court today, entered a no contest plea through his attorney, Anthony Brooklier. The former Velvet Revolver singer was also ordered to complete an 18-month alcohol program and pay almost $2,000 in fines. He will be put on a four-year summary probation.

Weiland was charged with one misdemeanor count of driving under the influence of alcohol with a prior conviction, and with an allegation that he refused a chemical test as required by law. We are told he was over the legal limit of .08%, but not by much.

According to the police report, he failed the field sobriety tests and refused to take a blood or urine test. He was booked for DUI and released on $40,000 bail.

Wow, much love for my hometown...Spokane on the 1st, two shows in Sacramento, then back to Spokane again?

Did Weiland make the schedule while he was on the junk?

Although I should point out that the Greyhound Park is over the border in Post Falls, Idaho.

I don't think Weiland is long for this world...I do appreciate the band now, but when "plush" (I think that was the first album) was released, I just thought it was a big Pearl Jam and AIC rip off..

"Plush" was the song, "Core" was the album.

Stone Temple Pilots' Scott Weiland has seizure on airplane

September 19, 2009

Stone Temple Pilots' frontman Scott Weiland has experienced a mild seizure on a commercial flight that resulted in the plane having to make an emergency landing at Dallas Fort Worth airport.

Flying from Los Angeles to Miami, flight staff had to call for medical assistance over the loud speaker and oxygen was administered onboard, reports Rolling Stone.

Flying with his Scott Weiland Band, the singer had reportedly come round and was in good spirits as he was taken to hospital.

Weiland - who recently finished a string of North American dates with Stone Temple Pilots - was travelling to Miami for a performance and to launch his clothing line Weiland for English Laundry at the club Mansion.

A representative who was flying with Weiland, told Rolling Stone that the singer has a history of seizures, but is now "Doing great" and expects to appear at the club in Miami as scheduled.

Scott Weiland Fired By Stone Temple Pilots
Associated Press
02/27/13

Image

NEW YORK -- The Stone Temple Pilots have fired singer Scott Weiland.

In a one-sentence news release Wednesday, publicist Kymm Britton said: "Stone Temple Pilots have announced they have officially terminated Scott Weiland." No other information was provided.

The Associated Press was attempting to reach Weiland for comment.

The band's 1992 debut, "Core," has sold more than 8 million units in the United States. Their hits include "Vasoline," "Interstate Love Song" and "Plush," which won a Grammy in 1993 for best hard rock performance with vocal.

Weiland was also in the supergroup Velvet Revolver with Slash and other musicians. The 45-year-old has dealt with drug addiction, run-ins with the law and two failed marriages. He released his memoir, "Not Dead & Not for Sale," in 2011.

The Stone Temple Pilots' latest album is their self-titled 2010 release.

FWIW, only a day prior Weiland denied similar reports in an interview with Rolling Stone.
Quote:
"STP has not broken up," he said. "I haven't quit. I haven't been fired." The rumors began a couple of months ago when Slash said in an interview that STP had fired Weiland.

"Slash doesn't know anything about STP," Weiland countered yesterday. "We're talking right now about when we want to tour next."

Weiland is launching a solo tour next month that will focus almost entirely on material from the first two STP albums, but he insisted the band very much remains a priority. "My personal feeling is that we need some new blood in the band," he said. "We've been playing the same greatest hits set since we got back together. I'd like to make a new record. It will breathe new life into the group."

He does acknowledge the group has been going through a rocky period. "There were some hurt egos," he says. "But that's the way it is. No one has ever fired anybody in STP. We're like a family. It's also a partnership. I started the band. We've always kept things going. We've taken time off before. They've done their own projects and I fully support that. No one has been fired and I haven't quit. That's all hearsay."

In the meantime, I'm looking forward to seeing all of my fans on my solo tour which starts this Friday."

I really liked STP at the time, but in retrospect I will likely not listen to them again, & if I do it would be Core or maybe the 2nd album.

Not that anything they did was bad; but I've only got so many years left on this planet & I have too many cd's! I've been liquidating most of my Pearl Jam collection for the same reason. With PJ, I'd like to get down to the first 2 albums, & 3 of the Seattle official boots.

Grunge just hasn't aged well for me, though I did enjoy a recent 1 time play of Nirvana's Nevermind 4 disc.
