THE NEW STUDIO ALBUM FROM KING CRIMSON AND EMERSON LAKE & PALMER FOUNDER GREG LAKE. Esoteric Antenna are pleased to announce the release of the new GREG LAKE album, SONGS OF A LIFETIME . As a founder member of KING CRIMSON and EMERSON, LAKE & PALMER, Greg has been a major creative force in music for over 40 years. In 2012 he embarked on a solo tour to perform Songs of a Lifetime , a unique concert experience that was conceived whilst Greg was writing his autobiography. From time to time during the writing these songs would crop up that were in some way crucial or extremely important in the development of my career he explains. These were not always songs that I had written myself, but sometimes songs that had been written and performed by other artists as well. I realised that they actually represented the journey that I had shared together with the audience over all these years. Behind these songs there was often a story to be told and it occurred to me that the same must be true for the audience as well. It was then that I thought of the idea of doing a series of very small intimate concerts where I could perform these songs and exchange stories with the audience, in a way reliving the time when the music we shared together really became part of our identity and in a way became the backdrop to our lives, a sort of tapestry I suppose. These recordings were taken from a selection of the shows performed on the tour . The album is a unique record of a unique live experience from one of the legendary figures in Rock music.

Just found out about this. The description says studio album but it seems to be live. Not sure if it's solo, or full band, but the photo seems to be full band (why would he just play bass?). I think there's some Storyteller type stuff here as well.

Either way, Greg's first official album in eons and I thought people would wanna know!

Curious who's in the band. I originally ignored the Lake solo LP's until I found out Gary Moore was on a couple of them. Obviously not the case here, but I would like to know who's in the band. If it's a bunch of nameless studio players, I already have the original ELP & Crimson cd's.

There's a promo video on his website. These appear to be solo performances.
I've always liked Lake so I'll give this a shot.

I saw Greg when he played in Clearwater, FL on tour this past summer. He was alone and playing along with tapes, kind of a karaoke thing and I was initially miffed but upon acceptance I actually liked the show very much. Doing it this way kept the ticket prices very low which allowed the show to quickly sell out which allowed for another additional show that weekend.
Actually I do not believe he could have mounted a tour with a full band, financially it may have not been feasible and doing the tour this way allowed for its success.

The in-between story telling was interesting and entertaining. He took questions from the audience which gave it a personal touch. Many fans express their Thanks for all the memories. Seeing him in a small intimate setting was a great way to experience this type of show.

I believe a DVD will also be released and therefore I'll await upon its release.

I once saw Dan Hicks playing in a theater opening for It's A Beautiful Day & Country Joe with a portable cassette player with a mic on the speaker as his band!
