Is it me or am I the only one confused with the description and the setlist for the live CD??

Official Press Release - February 19, 2013

2013 TO BRING THREE MORE RELEASES FROM JEFF LYNNE AND ELO AS PART OF ELO'S 40TH ANNIVERSARY

ON APRIL 23 IN THE U.S., FRONTIERS RECORDS WILL RELEASE 'ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA LIVE' AND TWO REISSUES: ELO'S 'ZOOM' AND THE LYNNE SOLO ALBUM 'ARMCHAIR THEATRE'

Just as the third quarter of 2012 brought three exciting works from JEFF LYNNE--his second solo album Long Wave, the freshly recorded Mr. Blue Sky - The Very Best Of Electric Light Orchestra" and the illuminating documentary "Mr. Blue Sky: The Story of Jeff Lynne and ELO" -- 2013 will be marked by more treats from the creative force of ELO and one of rock's most iconic figures.

On April 23 in the U.S. (and April 19 in Europe), Frontiers Records will release three albums: ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA LIVE and two reissues, ELO's ZOOM (remastered and including a brand new track) and his debut solo album ARMCHAIR THEATRE (also remastered, with two new brand new tracks). It's all part of the 40th anniversary of ELO, who've sold 50 million-plus records worldwide. These releases will all feature new packaging and the LIVE CD will come in a special ecobook edition.

ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA LIVE hasn't been issued as an album until now. Taken from a 2001 performance for a PBS television special in Los Angeles at CBS Television City, the music was released as a DVD that year. The new hits-packed CD offers fans six tracks that weren't on the DVD ("Stranger on a Quiet Street," "In My Own Time," "Really Doesn't Matter," "A Long Time Gone," "Melting in the Sun," and "All She Wanted") as well as two new, unreleased studio tracks, "Out of Luck" (recorded in 2010) and "Cold Feet" (recorded in 1992). Although the singularly accomplished British singer, songwriter, guitarist and producer has always preferred the creative experience of the recording studio, he is a compelling performer who's always figured out ways to bring his distinctive widescreen musical universe to life onstage when he needed to.

ELO's ZOOM--unavailable for over 10 years--has been remastered and features a brand new track, "One Day" (recorded in 2004) as an added bonus, along with live versions of "Do Ya" and "Turn To Stone" from the ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA LIVE show. At the time of its original release in 2001, LYNNE hadn't issued an ELO album since 1986's Balance of Power. He called upon notable friends for a little help, enlisting contributions from longtime ELO member Richard Tandy as well as good friends George Harrison and Ringo Starr. The result is an album rich in that distinct ELO sound--classic LYNNE melodies and songwriting, foot-stomping rock anthems and sweet, sexy strings.

LYNNE's first solo album, 1990's ARMCHAIR THEATRE, is a melting pot of different styles and influences featuring unexpected collaborations with LYNNE's heroes and close friends, including Tom Petty, Richard Tandy and George Harrison. This reissue, unavailable for the last decade, includes two previously unreleased bonus tracks, "Borderline" and "Forecast" (both recorded in 1989). Interestingly, the album also features a few notable covers--"Don't Let Go," "Stormy Weather" and "September Song"--that demonstrated LYNNE's flair for covers two decades before the release of 2012's acclaimed Long Wave.
Suitably, the core of the album is LYNNE himself, though he also left room for the contributions of a few friends and fellow travelers.
Harrison contributed guitars and vocals on a number of tracks. Petty co-wrote "Blown Away," a gorgeously romantic ballad. Longtime ELO band member Richard Tandy also contributed on keyboards and other instruments. ARMCHAIR THEATRE captures the musical genius of JEFF LYNNE when--perhaps more than ever before--the world was his stage.

Outside of the success of ELO, LYNNE has led a remarkable career producing and collaborating with many of the greatest musical artists of all time. They include a number of LYNNE's all-time heroes like Roy Orbison, Del Shannon, George Harrison, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and remarkably, even the Beatles themselves, as well as contemporaries like Tom Petty and Joe Walsh, whose new album Analog Man LYNNE recently produced some tracks for. Together with Harrison, Orbison, Petty and Bob Dylan, LYNNE was, of course, a member of the Grammy award-winning Traveling Wilburys--a super group like no other.
"I've been in love with music since I was probably just five years old," says LYNNE. "I was mad for music then--and I still am today."

Looks like they just didn't list the 6 bonus tracks (all from Zoom) for the live release that's all. Not sure if I'd even get that. Not really ELO. Same with Zoom, but it's a decent album and I'll probably pick that up again.

I was hoping for the old Long Beach show live album from around 1974-instead we get what was basically a Lynne solo show from 2001.

I'll most likley get all 3, but I was hoping for a complete live album from that 2001 show. Yeah, it' not really ELO, but at least it's Jeff and not ELO Part 2. I agree that the Long Beach how should be expanded. That would be ideal. I had tickets to the show at the Nassau Coliseum in 2001, sad the tour was cancelled to poor ticket sales.

ELO Part II had more ELO members than Jeff's ELO! I saw their very last show and it was excellent. But without Jeff of course it wasn't ELO and the new material by ELO Part II was terrible and the writing was why.

I think if Jeff did an ELO tour now and not in the big arenas he was trying for in 2001 he'd find a definite audience. Just play theaters and small halls and I'd be there!

The Night the Light When On in Long Beach did get a dramatic sonic upgrade when CBS reissued it on CD in the 90s--they used a different tape. Not expanded, but some tracks were lengthened over the LP running times. Still never issued in the US, it's available for cheap in the UK.

Personally, I loved the 2001 DVD and the way the classic songs sounded. Jeff was in great voice, and while it was essentially a backing band, except for Richard Tandy, it was a great sounding show and I think we missed out on a great tour.

Zoom had a track called Long Black Road released in Japan only. I guess they couldn't have put it on the reissue...too bad

I love Zoom, but I won't get this one without more non-live bonus tracks (especially since I know that they exist). On the other hand, I will pick up this Armchair Theatre. I remember seeing the original release in the cut-out bin at Tracks/Record Bar in Raleigh back in the day. I don't know why I never picked it up, but I later regretted it. Now, I have a second chance. I'm on the fence about the live release. I'm sure it'll be good, but my CD wish list is already too large.

Probably will not buy any of these because I'm so furious that “Long Black Road,” will not be included on "Zoom" and that the Japanese re-release will have ANOTHER bonus track, “Lucky Motel,” that's not available anywhere else. My limit on this kind of crap has finally been reached. What a slap in the face for US fans. F*ck the idiots responsible for this.

Don't understand why they can't put the extra tracks recorded for Zoom on Zoom. Why split them up? Who thinks this is really a good idea? How did you find out there is another extra track on the Japanese release & is Long Black Road on the reissue in Japan?

"Lucky Motel" is referenced in this article on The Second Disc:
http://theseconddisc.com/2013/02/19/do- ... eff-lynne/

And apparently the new version of the Japanese disc isn't going to have "Long Black Road," either. How crazy is that? About as crazy as omitting the two original "Armchair Theatre"-era b-sides ("I'm Gone" and "Sirens") from that reissue, I suppose.

Don't understand it. Also, how much can the sound of Zoom be improved by remastering? Also Armchair is missing I'm Gone, the B side to Every Little Thing.

Kind of interesting why Jeff would release a live ELO album from a period where it wasn't really ELO as we know it, except for Richard Tandy. A full show from the OOTB or Time Tour would have been better. In fact, the Time Tour had a good 1/2 hour medley of their hits and a great John lennon tribute as well.

Having missed out on Zoom the first time, I'll be glad to pick up the reissue. This information was posted just in time, too -- I was very close to paying big bucks for the original on eBay.

As for the international-only bonus tracks, I'm usually pretty good at hunting down odds and ends like that on the web. :paranoid:

Ven,

I highly recommend Zoom. I bought it the day it came out and still play it often. It's a terrific album that wasn't appreciated (or even noticed) by the world at the time. "Alright" is the perfect opener that announces "ELO is back!" As Neine noted, I can't imagine how remastering can help this 2001 release. However, it's a great opportunity to pick it up if your missed it the first time around.

I will buy it anyway as even though I bought it the day it came out (just like Armchair), they are both very good. Zoom ended very strongly with Lonesome Lullaby (great song). I just wish they could put all the extra on the disc as long black road is a great song. When there are reissues, you would think they would include everything that was recorded at that time. Of course, Balance of Power was missing a few (megamix)

I like Zoom when it came out and did play it often. Haven't played it in years. The DVD featured the beautiful Rosie Vela who is featured in the back up singer role.

Love Rosie Vela. Still wishing she would record a follow-up to "Zazu."

I think I'll pass on all of these. I don't need Zoom again-it sounds fine and they couldn't include the proper bonus material which is beyond ridiculous. Same goes for the live release and the scattered bonus cuts. Who the hell botched all this?
