On February 26, Sensibility Music will release the soundtrack to A Place At The Table, featuring original songs and music by The Civil Wars and T Bone Burnett. The record includes 14 songs, including the single “Lone Time Gone,” which can be heard here. See below for complete track listing. Coinciding with the soundtrack’s release, the full-length documentary (distributed by Magnolia Pictures) will be released March 1 in theaters nationwide as well as on iTunes and On Demand. Created by Participant Media and co-directed by Kristi Jacobson and Lori Silverbush, A Place At The Table focuses on the hunger crisis in America. Featuring Jeff Bridges and Tom Colicchio, the film debuted at last year’s Sundance Film Festival with the title “Finding North.” It was produced by Jacobson and Silverbush, along with Julie Goldman and Ryan Harrington. Jeff Skoll, Diane Weyermann, Christina Weiss Lurie, Jeffrey Lurie and Colicchio served as executive producers.
Magnolia and Participant previously collaborated on the very successful Food, Inc., a film that affected real positive change by asking audiences to think about the quality and source of the food that they eat. A Place At The Table takes on the food issue from a new angle, shining a light on the 30% of American families—more than 49 million people—that don’t know where their next meal is coming from.
Of the project Joy Williams comments, “being a part of A Place At The Table opened my eyes to an epidemic that is happening in our country right now—underneath many of our noses. It’s happening to our neighbors, to our friends, to children. It’s a silent battle that can be won, if we as a nation set our minds to ending it. Linking arms with T Bone Burnett to create music for such a timely and important film as this was an honor.” John Paul White goes on to add, “We met T Bone in New York City at the Americana Awards nomination announcements a couple of years ago. Turns out Rosanne Cash, the sweetheart, had turned him onto the music. He expressed a desire to work together, which was quickly reciprocated. Later on he and his manager Larry Jenkins contacted us about a documentary being made about hunger in America. We were already intrigued by the prospect of working with him, but as he laid out the scope of the film, it became apparent that the endeavor was more worthwhile than imagined. It hit home extremely hard for me; as a very young husband and father, I was a part of the WIC and food stamps program. I don’t like to dwell much on the past, but I hate to think where I would be without those programs. There were times that the only food on the table was a result of our enrollment. This contributes greatly to my deep attachment to this project. I’m thrilled to have had a small part in a film that exposes and highlights a pervasive problem right here at home. I’m excited about the dialogue that it creates, and the improvement of the lives affected.”
This latest release adds to an already widely successful few years for The Civil Wars, who won “Best Folk Album” and “Best Country Duo/Group Performance” at 54th annual Grammy Awards and “Duo/Group of the Year” at the 2012 Americana Music Association’s Honors & Awards. Additionally, in support of their RIAA certified Gold debut Barton Hollow, the band has appeared on “Good Morning America,” “Late Show with David Letterman,” “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” “Austin City Limits,” BBC’s “Later…with Jools Holland,” “A Prairie Home Companion,” “Morning Becomes Eclectic,” “VH1 Unplugged” and three times on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.” Moreover, the duo recently won “Best Song Written For Visual Media” at the 55th annual Grammy Awards for their collaboration with Taylor Swift and T Bone Burnett on “Safe and Sound” from The Hunger Games soundtrack. The song was also nominated for a 2013 Golden Globe Award.
