Are you tired of your hoard of comics? Would you like some extra cash? Would you like to free up some space in your home, or cancel that storage locker rental? Well, I'm your guy. I just can't stop buying and selling comics. So, anyone who has a decent sized collection, 20+ boxes is best for me if I have to travel a long distance, let me know either here, or via PM and we can discuss it.

I'll work out a brokerage deal with you if that's what you prefer. Small or big collections, I can buy it. BTW, if you live east of the Mississippi or less than 500 miles from Ohio, that's preferable. Let me know if you're interested.

Anybody that's thinking about this - A buddy of mine & I combined our collections (I had more books, but he had better stuff) & gave 'em to Dave to sell this past year, and we were extremely happy with the results.

Dave I may take you up on this. I only have about 14 long boxes, though. But I think I am going to make a bit of a hobby of this on my own first. Really I want to go through my collection, organize it and catalog it. I also know there is an issue of S.H.I.E.L.D. in there someplace that has some Polaroids of an ex girlfriend that I must find and get rid of.

So, I have a semi-related related question. Do you use software to catalog, and have you found a program that you prefer?

On a totally different side note, thinking of the pictures I must find, what is the weirdest thing you have come across when going through someone's collection?

Joe, I don't have any software for cataloging. If a collection is unsorted, I just try to get them somwhat in order, alpha-numerically, and otherwise, they are sorted to sell at set prices, like: "the comics in these boxes are all $5, or $2, or $1 each", etc. I go through and pull out the best comics, anything that is key and should be priced at or close to price guide prices, and placed on a display, for example. I wouldn't spend a lot of time pricing each and every book if I were you, if you're going to set up as a dealer at shows. It's just not worth all the time it will take. There's only a very small percentage of books that command top dollar, everything else, such as most of your average silver and bronze age books (except for those key 1st app. and #1 issues or whatever is hot, of course) I recommend that you get a sense of what they should be worth by their grade and age, and make them all $20, or $10 or $5 each, and have different boxes with prices like that, and use a color coded sticker or something so you can keep track of prices, because even if you price them all, you'll eventually have to end up marking them all half sticker price, or go the $10 or $5 each route to get them to move.

I forgot to answer your second question. I rarley look through very many individual comics, (just the really old expensive ones) especially if they're already bagged, so I've probably missed out on some long forgotten cash or hidden pics, like you have. I can't think of anything too weird I've come across in going through all the stuff I've gone through over the years. One nice surprise I got was flipping through a copy of Crazy magazine (the one with the X-Men cover by Byrne), and discovering a Jack Kirby signature on an interior page, which was a reprint of an old Spidey story Jack had pencilled, inked by Ditko, in which Crazy had changed all the word balloons into funny stuff. I'm sure it was signed at some con before Jack died, but I just found it a few years ago.

Are long boxes twice the size of short boxes? I have about 40 short boxes (+/- 2 or 3) but some of it is trades and hardcovers that I will want to hold on to. Nothing is categorized or sorted. My wife and I will be going through it a bit in the next couple of days and I will have a better idea of what I have. I guess this is just a heads up.

Yeah, that's about the size of it, Don. I may already have a customer first in line, though who PM'ed me. I like to sell one collection at a time so I don't have to keep track of what is selling for who, but if you want to pencil yourself in, it sounds like you have enough stuff, and I could start selling your collection, maybe as soon as April. Assuming we are a go with the 1st in line.

Or if you wanna just sell it for a lump sum, I can help you with that too. I don't wanna turn anyone away, so don't let it discourage you

No rush. I need to go through it and see what I have, might not be worth your effort.

It looks like I'll take on the first in line's collection (I don't know if he wants his identity revealed yet) in a few weeks and I expect to have it all sold by the end of March, as I have four shows booked through March. So, if you're ready to go sometime in April, Don, you would be next. If not, there is another contender in line behind you, and one more in line behind him, both of whom have said they need a few months, and in fact the last one there said "later this year" would be best for him.

My will now stipulates that my comics go to Dave and the proceeds go the Human Fund.

Hey Dave, been going through the boxes and cleaning them up a bit, pulling out the trades and such. It's looking like I'm only going to have 20-25 short boxes. And it's mostly stuff from the last 5 years. May not be worth your time. I'll keep you posted with progress.

That may not ne enough to try the 50/50 thing Don. It would barely fill a table for one show. But if you want to sell it and have an idea what you want. (Cheap since it's only recent materia)l ....I might be interested . You're way over by Philly though aren't you?

Any updates? Picking up a collection in a couple weeks. I will be ready for more in the mid to late summer. A few of you have smaller collections. Maybe I can buy them rather than do a 50/50 deal. If i make a trip to Philly for Don maybe i can swing by NH while I'm out there. Just a thought.

I need to get the collection out and get a final count of the longboxes. Your proposal sounds intriguing and I will look into this during the week and let you know, Dave.

How many long boxes do you have, Allen? What eras do your comics span? We can discuss in private message if you prefer?
