.....you're movin' way too fast.

There's lots of different songs named "Slow Down"...so this is for the Larry Williams song with one of the all-time great riffs. (None of the other "Slow Downs" have 15+ versions)

This is the 50th "best version of" song......didn't think I could come up with this many.....only have about 15 more left at the moment.

Has to be The Beatles. John just rips this song apart.

Larry Williams is underrated and overlooked,so he has my vote.

Tough call but I'm picking the Jam- though very, very closely followed by the Lazy Cowgirls cow-punk version.

So pleased to see Zebra's version on the list of choices. They got my vote. Not sure if theirs is the best version (it's a simple song that's been done well by many other artists), but it's probably my favorite and was my introduction to the song when I was 16.

The Jam, out of respect. The Beatles' was probably better.

I used to hear a rocking version of this when I was a kid, circa late 60's/early 70's. Does anyone know what version might have been a radio hit around that time?

Crow, maybe? The group that hit with "Evil Woman Don't Play Your Games With Me" in '69.

My personal almost heavy metal arrangement (think how Blue Oyster Cult would have played the song) that several of my old top 40 bands used to do.

Other than that, the Beatles.

Always liked Crow. The singer sounds to me like the same person as Black Oak's Jim Dandy, though I know he isn't.

Not a fan of the song but I love Golden Earring so they get my vote. Best cover of it is The Beatles though.

:agree: :TheBeatles:

John Lennon had Rock and Roll's greatest voice. It's amazing that he was so self-conscious about it.

Yep, that's the one I was thinking of. The Beatles version has a slight edge with me because it manages to be both rocking and melodic at the same time, but I do like that Crow version too. Thanks guys.

I have a Crow best-of CD from K-Tel. (Because, you know, I have to own a best-of by everybody.) Anyway, it includes "Slow Down."

Crow's 1970 version of Don't Try to Lay No Boogie Woogie On The King Of Rock and Roll (I have a CD and a promo 45) pre-dates Long John Baldry's 1971 hit version. But I thinkl there is also a version by Gator Creek from 1970.

But for Slow Down I voted for The Beatles.

I also just remembered that young me (Young Meezy??) used to change the line "You're The Best Little Woman I Ever Had" to "You're The best P.O.A. I Ever Had"!

Larry Williams is great but it was the Beatles version that I first heard.

The Young Rascals version is also great.
