Product Description
Formed in Toronto, Ontario, in 1968 under the heavy influence of British blues, Rush solidified its lineup in 1974 and has gone on to record 18 studio albums (and counting). Notable for bassist/vocalist Geddy Lee’s high register, Neil Peart’s virtuosic drumming and inventive lyrics, and the guitar heroics of Alex Lifeson, the multiplatinum band melds a diverse range of influences and along the way has amassed a large, notably loyal following worldwide. Rush is bigger than ever before with the hit 2011 documentary Beyond the Lighted Stage and this year’s new album, Clockwork Angels, and tour.

Now, for the first time, Rush is treated to the epic visual celebration they so richly deserve in a beautifully designed and profusely illustrated history following the band’s entire career. A chronological overview history written by noted music scribe and Rush authority Martin Popoff spans the band’s entire career from 1968 to today. A complete Rush discography chronicles all their albums, from the debut album to 2112, Moving Pictures, and Signals to Grace Under Pressure, Vapor Trails, and more. The authoritative text is complemented by album reviews written by well-known music journalists from around the globe, commentary from fellow musicians, a discography, tour dates, and hundreds of photographs and pieces of memorabilia, including picture sleeves, gig posters, rare vinyl, handbills, ticket stubs, and much more.

Author Martin Popoff is looking to capitalize on Rush’s upcoming induction into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame with the May 15th release of a new book, “Rush: The Unauthorized Illustrated History.”

The book’s description reads, in part:

“Now, for the first time, Rush is treated to the epic visual celebration they so richly deserve in a beautifully designed and profusely illustrated history following the band’s entire career.

A chronological overview history spans the band’s career from 1968 to today. A complete Rush discography chronicles all their albums, from the debut album to 2112, Moving Pictures and Signals to Grace Under Pressure, Vapor Trails, and more.

The text is complemented by album reviews written by well-known music journalists from around the globe, commentary from fellow musicians, a discography, tour dates, and hundreds of photographs and pieces of memorabilia, including picture sleeves, gig posters, rare vinyl, handbills, ticket stubs, and much more.”

Rush will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame on April 18, along with Heart, Public Enemy, Donna Summer, Randy Newman and Albert King.

The band will be inducted by Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins of the Foo Fighters.

It's a shame they have to slap on the "unauthorized" part because it makes some of these books sound like crap and they're absoultely gorgeous and this one will be no exception. But, without the band's involvement it must be so.

Popoff already did a book with Rush so this isn't some cheap-ass "fly by night" (heh-heh) book.

Eh, after reading the BOC book, I doubt I'll ever waste any money on another Popoff book. His writing is extremely amateurish. I wasn't impressed.

His last book was really good. It was a history of the band album-by-album, with some great stuff about how each album was made.

I agree for the most part but this book isn't about the writing-it's the photos and artifacts and such. He's not a good writer and his opinions are bizarre-but he's very passionate about the subjects he handles.

Yes Chris-that was a good book as were his similar books on Sabbath and Priest. When his opinions and writing are kept to a minimum that's a good thing.

And that will be the case here.

Ironic he's doing another Rush book as he has trashed on a very juvenile level eveything they've done since the mid-80s through the late 90's.
