Durning guest-starred in one of my favorite episodes of NCIS several years ago. He played a WWII Marine vet and Medal of Honor recipient who turns himself in for murdering his best friend on Iwo Jima 60 years earlier. Mark Harmon's character and his team must prove his innocence not just to the military, but to him as well. Durning's performance is what really made the episode a standout. RIP, sir.

That's a great episode. I watch it every time I see it.
