A lot of these people had other careers---movies,etc.---but never mind that;judge them by their ability to stand in front of an audience and tell jokes.We all can use a laugh these days.

I know there are way too many good ones to list in a poll, though I'd like to point out several notable absences:
Chris Rock, Louis CK, Andy Kaufman, Eddie Izzard, Dave Chapelle, Sarah Silverman, Jeff Foxworthy (and assorted Blue Collar comedians), Steven Wright, Jerry Seinfeld
I'm sure there are more famous ones that I'm missing.

From that list it's between Dangerfield and Newhart.
I've seen Carlin, Murphy, Leno, Wright, and Cosby live... and out of those I think that Carlin had me laughing the hardest.
